i like the yamaha A series (got an A3000 myself... good filters, fat sound, excellent fx) why go for another hardware seq if you're going to buy the xx7? it's by far the easiest to use i.m.o.... if you want more sophisticated sequencing, go for cubase or logic and dump your songs/patterns into the xx7 for live use (at least that's how i'm doing it....) best of luck, peter. --- In xl7@y..., "drj0" <drj0@y...> wrote:

For most sequencing duties you should be fine with the XL-7 MP-7. After that usually it's a matter of drum hits, so since I do basically the same thing, I would recomend the Korg ES-1 sampler... ;) Andre

I'm starting to think you're all right on this. I was planning on getting the MPC2000xl - then i figured this sampler is starting to become out dated. Then i considered the RS7000. I really need somthing that does a great job slicing up drum breaks, as I use them a lot. And quite honestly, my Korg ES-1 SUCKS at it. I dispise that machine. I also need somthing that can do a good job with long vocal samples... WHen I ran 2 mmt-8's (8 track sequencers) i rarely ran out of channels. So I think that a stand alone sampler will do just wonderfully. Now what to get? My first thougt is the A5000/A4000. But I also have fantasies for the KORG TRITON RACK Any ideas on those two products? --- In xl7@y..., "Andre Lewis" <andrel@s...> wrote: > For most sequencing duties you should be fine with the XL-7 MP-7. Ah the deal with the ES-1 is you have to get BeatSlicer or Recycle or the like and the smartcard reader for the PC. Then you dump the samples into the ES-1 and use the midi timing from Cubase or Cakewalk or Fruity or whatever to put the beats into it if you really want to. Definately into the XL-7. I've no compalints

Just thought I would throw my two cents in on this one. I have been using the E5000 for a couple of years now and i love it. I do have it loaded up with a 10 gig drive and a 128Mb of ram mind you. The sound is very warm and the features for setting up programs is very nice and bug free. I think if you wanted to blow your head up with a sampler you may want a EMU with the FX upgrade. I have never heard a bum review on the fx expansion, Mind you it is alot of cash. I have also heard alot of good things about the yamaha samplers but have never used one so dont know first hand. The way i see it is kinda like this. EMU where the people that invented the sampler. So why would you buy a sampler from a company that makes motercyeles? I used akai for a long time and when I went to a EMU it was instant love. I would recomend buying a sampler from a company that make instraments rather than toys motercycles and diskmans. This is all just my opinion but hope it is worth something to you. Best reguards and good luck. Depends on how much you want to spend. Less than a grand, I'd say got
with the Korg ES-1, more than grand, go with the Akai MPC200OXL.

They make nice motorcycles though, my R1 one kicked ass. 0-60 in 1.9seconds, woosh! rEalm So why would you buy a sampler from a company that makes motercyeles?

If you're going to go with the Sp505, might as well try and find a used
sp808 for the same price. The sp808 is a very cool sampler IMO, one of
the few pieces of hardware I miss. Unlike my S3000XL ;) Plus, if you
find an older (black) sp808, it can be upgraded to the same specs and
features as the EX version for cheap!

what about the Roland SP-505 - it's only 8 voice, but it does take up to
128Mb Smart Media? The ES-1 only samples at 32Khz which is a bit lame in
this day and age.

I also use an old EMU eIV that has been upgraded to an e6400. I'm still figuring out the machine but I have noticed that the interface between the two is incredible. Having all the knob control of the XL-7, and using it to tweak the sounds I sample with the e6400 has openend up my whole sound. These two machines alone could cover all of my plates and replace most of my gear. The only thing that could be better would be to ULTRACIZE that old e6400 if I could afford it. ===== http://www.mp3.com/BuddhaSpaceshipBUDDHA SPACESHIP drum-n-bass producers from outer space! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I might be biassed, But the E-MU E-5000 should on your list. Check with Sweetwater music, their running some great deals. Plus you get the cool DSP tool (inside the E5000) Called Beat Munging, that lets you slice and dice, auto loop and more. When it comes to hardware sampling, were the guys. The sound library is huge, and if your in the mood you can update your E-5000 with the extra cool and powerful RFX32 card that allows you to run 16 effects at once, with effects like Pattern based tempo delays, synched flangers and ring mods., the Muxter which allows you to auto gate up 4 parts at once (like a slicer) and a scalable Vocoder (13 - 52 bands). Sorry guys, but all this sample talk and nobody talking about one of the companies that has dominated in this category since the beginning forced me to get on my soap box. Lastly, In the fall the Software Emulator 5 will arrive and allow you to share files back and forth between it and the E5000. If your looking at a rack sampler, go with the one that is still supported not discontinued. sean at e-mu / ensoniq drj0 wrote:

Im new to the group but I own many Emu/Ensoniq products. SP1200, ASR 10 , FIZMO, E5000, and MP7. I am nearly ready to sell my E5000 for one reason and one reason only!!! Is it me or can you not do realtime sample editing while the sequencer is running? Going into sample edit mode disables the presets playing within the sequence. With my ASR 10, I can tweak a sample perfectly to the beat while running. I just couldnt believe this when I first got the E5000 but sadly it seems true. Please tell me Im a novice and have just overlooked this function. If not, the E5000 (with all its impressive features) gets the thumbs down. --- Sean Wilhelmsen <seanw@...> wrote: > I might be biassed, But the E-MU E-5000 should on > your list. I am using a Kurzwiel K2000RS. OK, so not many people think of this as a good rack sampler, but it is. Recycle will load loops over SMDI and you can process them using the full power of the VAST synth engine. It is also easy to cotrol all aspects of the sound from the xx-7 knob bank. Cheap SIMMs from your old mac can be used to expand it, and it has SCSI to store samples and patches. The best part is the synth engine though. It is much more powerfull than any other sampler on the market. Just make sure you get OS version 3. You will even get a (much less capable) backup sequencer "just in case." For rebuilding and shuffling the samples, I like to use the xx-7 arpegiators. I have a bunch of custom arpegios built for recycle sliced loops. I start them from the trigger keys. That way you can keep the samples running even while you switch patterns. The loops even play in perfect sync with the song! This a killer misuse of good features... keep it up emu. --Ezra --- In xl7@y..., "drj0" <drj0@y...> wrote:

I will definatly see if i can't check it out. though, that's half the problem with me making my decision, i can't check htem out. --- In xl7@y..., Sean Wilhelmsen <seanw@e...> wrote: > I might be biassed, But the E-MU E-5000 should on your list.
