For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR/AVG), the mailing-list administrator acts as the data controller for the personal data processed in operating the list.

When you subscribe to or use the mailing list, we may process:

• your email address;
• your name, if you provide one;
• your mailing-list subscription and preference settings;
• messages that you send to the mailing list, including the name and email address appearing in the message headers;
• normal technical information generated by the mail and web servers, such as IP addresses, timestamps and log entries.

We do not sell subscriber information or use it for advertising or marketing.

Messages sent to Synth-DIY are distributed to the subscribers of the mailing list.

Messages are also normally stored in the public Synth-DIY archive. The archive is intended to provide a long-term historical and technical record of discussions on the list.

This means that information you include in a message, including your name and email address as contained in the message headers or body, may become publicly accessible on the Internet and may be indexed or copied by search engines and other third parties.

You should therefore not include information in a mailing-list message that you do not want to make public.

Subscription information is processed because it is necessary to provide the mailing-list service that you have requested.

We also process mailing-list messages, moderation information, archives and technical logs on the basis of our legitimate interests in operating, securing and moderating the Synth-DIY community and maintaining its historical technical archive.

Subscription information is normally retained while you remain subscribed to the mailing list and may be retained for a limited period afterwards where necessary for technical, security or administrative purposes.

Messages posted to the mailing list are normally retained indefinitely in the public archive because maintaining the historical record of Synth-DIY discussions is one of the purposes of the archive.

Server and security logs are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for operation, troubleshooting and abuse prevention.

You may contact us to request access to, correction of, restriction of, objection to, or deletion of personal data relating to you, where those rights apply under the GDPR.

Requests concerning material in the public mailing-list archive should identify the specific message or messages concerned, preferably by archive URL, date and subject, and explain what information you want corrected or removed.

Because mailing-list messages are distributed by email to many independent subscribers, removing a message from the Synth-DIY web archive cannot remove copies already received, quoted, downloaded, indexed or stored elsewhere.

We may ask for sufficient information to verify that a person making a privacy request is the person to whom the information relates.

Private subscription information is not disclosed to third parties except where necessary to operate the mailing list, comply with applicable law, or respond to a valid legal requirement.

Information contained in messages posted to the mailing list is, by the nature of the service, distributed to subscribers and normally published in the public archive.

The Synth-DIY website does not use advertising or tracking cookies.

Mailman's administrative and subscriber interfaces may use functional cookies where required for login or session handling.

Reasonable technical and organisational measures are used to protect non-public subscriber information and the systems used to operate Synth-DIY.

No Internet service can guarantee absolute security.
