bananalogue vcs in motm format?

Bananalogue VCS?

thanks much

Look in the sduck folder in the files section. 2u, fully featured, not trad but you can easily modify it. Before ordering it give me a chance to make sure I upped the revised version - I messed up the position of the jacks on my first design of this, and revised it, but don't remember if I ever posted the revision. I'll check that this evening. There may be pictures of this one also in the pictures section.

The picture in the sduck folder is of the first one of these I built, with the uncorrected jack placements, otherwise it's correct. The jack holes were maybe a millimeter too low - not something that was obvious visually but it made the fit into my cabinet a little tight.

I have a Mac too, so before I go build a pc. Seth didn't point me to any doc on this board so I have been winging it. According to my best guess a panel should be cut for 4 pots, 1 dpdt toggle and 11 jacks and I wouldn't be surprised if I was wrong.

Sounds about right, except I've only got 10 jacks, and a hole for the led. Which boards are you using - the cgs ones? I used ones I got from Seth, which I think were prototypes of the cgs ones - the led didn't work as labeled, and the bipolar out was an add-on optional part. There were holes for pcb mount pots - I don't know if the cgs boards have those.

I got a single board unit from Seth marked bano4ro with just an MOTM power connector.
They were well done , they had anchor holes for the shield on coax hookup wire.

The doc for this board is limited. Do you have any ?

Re: [ModularSynthPanels] Re: bananalogue vcs in motm format?

2009-10-01 by Ross Stapf

I've built one.  I have another half finished.  The only problem is the led's.  http://www.electro-music.com/forum/topic-26503-25.html Look at this thread, page 2 about half way down is when the MOTM version is discussed.  There is a part list for the euro version on page 1 that I used and it was right for the most part.

It is well labeled and was pretty easy to build.  Again see the instructions Andrew F posted to fix this.  Other folks mention a problem with the euro boards.  I did not have this issue.  The only problem I had was with the LED's and the fix Andrew F gave works just fine.

This was the first project I did without step by step instructions.  I had been doing diy for less than a year when I finished it.  I used Sduck's panel layout.

I think we have the same boards. If so, just use the parts list on the thread Ross linked to, and see the fix for the led later in the thread. You'll need to hijack one of the spare holes next to a cap for the +15v for the led.

There are no docs that I know of, besides what's available on the cgs site, and that e-m.com thread. If you use the web wayback machine page, you can find the old banalogue site, which has some example patches that might help you test it once it's built.

I am. I have the layout done and will upload it this weekend, I hope.
IIRC it has 10 jacks, 7 pots, 3 switches.

Well I will need one, put me down for it.

Question :

Should I finish the Bananalogue or sell it along and get a CGS board instead ?

OR keep both.

Hopefully you just remembered incorrectly - just 4 pots. 10 jacks, 3 switches (just one if you use switching pots), and an led.

Re: [ModularSynthPanels] Re: bananalogue vcs in motm format?

2009-10-05 by Scott Deyo

I don't think so, maybe. The 2" x 6" board seems to have more stuff.

Pots: Rise, Fall, Rise CV, Fall CV, Rise Rate, Fall Rate, Processor (normalled to Both CV)
Jacks: Rise CV, Fall CV, Both CV, Input, 1v/ oct, Proc In, Proc Out, Trigger, Output, End Out
Switches: Rise Exp, Fall Exp, Cycle
LED

I still ended up leaving off the AC Out and Bipolar Out. Maybe an AC/ DC Out switch would fit. It's already pretty cramped, so what's one more switch?

I, too, was surprised to see 7 pots listed. Why would you want two pots
each for Rise CV and Fall CV? The Rise and Fall pots on the schematic
are already reversible CV attenuators. There isn't much reason to add a
pot between the CV input jack and the board, which is what I guess you
are thinking. The FPE panel I uploaded the other day has 5 pots and 12
jacks. I put the processor input and output as separate jacks. Check
it out in the files section under Richard Brewster.

I plan to build two of these. Has anyone asked Ken Stone when the
CGS-75 PC boards might be in stock again?

Ahh... I was wondering why there were both (for example) Fall Rate and Fall pots, but didn't notice that the Fall pot was actually the CV attenuator. I didn't look "down the line" enough.
: )

That's good. We'll have room for those jacks then.

Those darn FPE files take some inter-computer wrangling for me. I'll check your layout later, Richard, thanks!

And I didn't see that processor pot/jacks thing! That's a new thing since the proto pcb's I got. So 5 pots and 12 jacks it is!

Last I heard on MW is that he just got a new supply of boards, or they were on the way from a new supplier he's using, I can't remember which.

Everyone build 2 at least! Cross modulating these things is crazy fun. I worked up a dual panel once, which was 3u, but it didn't have the new stuff - dunno if I could fit 10 pots and 24 jacks (although my Doomsday Machine is 18 pots and 20 jacks in 3u)

Re: [ModularSynthPanels] Re: bananalogue vcs in motm format?

2009-11-22 by Jason Proctor

i just uploaded another 2U MOTM fpd for the Bananalogue/Serge/CGS VCS
to the "Jason's panels" folder in the files section.

i was going for more of a regular MOTM look than the multi-colour sduck one.

also, as i'm reading it, the PCB seems to be Oakley-fashion, that is,
it is happiest mounted on the left hand side of the module as seen
from the front (as opposed to MOTM standard right hand side). with
the knob row on the right, and the CV pots at the bottom, then the
PCB is face-out on the right hand side. with a power cable plugged
in, this leaves precious little wiggle room between it and the next
module in line.

so my knobs are down the left hand side of the module. the text is
all 0.2mm filled-in white with the DIN1451 font, the one i usually
use. it's not 100% match with MOTM, but it's close.

i'm in a "clean house NOW" kinda mood - this stuffed PCB has been
lying around for ages - so i spazzed and ordered this panel from FPE
at a cost of $45. black has always been FPE's weakest colour IMHO,
i'll post pics when it appears.
