Digital Out

2002-11-05 by freakyfreq

Anyone ever noticed when you first power up the xx-7 the digital out
makes crackling noises until the unit warms up. Everything's right on
my end as far as setting my interface to clock to digital inputs.
Strange, as the xx-7 warms up the noise seem to decrease??? Anyone?

The symptoms still suggest a lack of proper clock synchronization with the
decrease over time due to the XX7's clock drifting into proper range. Is
there a way you can verify? What type of digital input are you driving?

Yes, I believe you're right! Only in my mind was it getting better.
Fact is, I left it on all day and it still made noises. This has
happened to me before. It stopped when I turned off the XL-7 and shut
down the computer then powered back up. I think something was whack
with the 2408. Thanks!

I have had similar problems with the 2408 (MRKI) and ADAT. Those problems
too were corrected usually by rebooting, though *sometimes* re-powering the
2408. In my case it came down to an issue with the EPROM in a sister 1224
unit on the same PCI-324. since MOTU sent me the replacement things have
been fine. Its a long shot but I thought I'd pass that on.

The headphones make a cool noise too when you first power it on. Hmmm....
that gives me an idea....
