Compressors 'n' shit -

Compressors 'n' shit -

2002-05-15 by drj0

While I am waiting for my unit i have a couple questions. Does the
XX-7 have a compressor in it?

If not, is it possible to run a sound through internal fx, then to an
outboard compressor?

Re: [xl7] Compressors 'n' shit -

No, there' no internal compressor in the XL-7, though that would be a very
cool (if unlikely) feature! can you route a sound through the EFX and
then into an external compressor? Only if you use the master outs,
anything plugged into the subouts automatically deisconnects the EFX send
from that out.

In my live rig, I run each side of the output separately, pan everything hard right and left, to get 4 sends out of the unit, plus the one of the internal effects.
The main mix runs through a stero + bass compression except for one channel of drums, which gets it's own compression, something I added recently, greatly imprving the sound.
You can add a pair of compressors to your signal chain for about a hundred bucks, and much more interesting effects to your unit for about the same price, so why wish for the impossible?

I just ordered a gate/compressor for ablout $160. 4 channels. Now
I'm needing to get an outboard effects box. I need somthing with
distortion, a nice VERB, and other fx.

Look into a Lexicon MPX100, awesome box for the cash. The new Zoom EFX
are pretty good too.

I don't think the MPX series has any distortion on it. Which,
Ironicly enough, I need.

Re: Compressors 'n' shit -

For distortion, what I use are BOSS's old sckulz guitar stomp pedals.
I run 1 set of various BOSS fx pedals out my Left Sub and the 2nd set
out my Right Sub since the fx are mono. Gives the yellow digital
box some raw analog sounds. It sounds great but I was wondering,
does anyone know if this kind of routing is bad for Sub outs? Seems
to work okay for me so far.

Re: Compressors 'n' shit -

As distortion I use the quite cheap (but new) Behringer V-AMP 2. The
input is only mono (stereo outputs tho), but it makes amazing
distortion - quite lo-fi 'n so, but that's just what I want. Very
cool for drums.

Re: Compressors 'n' shit -

2002-05-17 by mikexl7

I just installed a behringer tube composer and a behringer ultra
curve pro and the combo is super sweet. I have the ultra curve side
chained through the tube composer so i can controll what frequencies
are being compressed. The Gate and limiter on the tube composer
still work on the hole signal but only what i want gets compressed.
The sweet thing about it is i can trigger the eq settings via midi
so it is always right for the song i am working on in a live setting.

It is not the cheap way to go but it sounds very good.

Peace

Mike G.
