Using E-Loader to back-up patterns - how much memory?

Using E-Loader to back-up patterns - how much memory?

2005-02-16 by Fab Claxton

Good morning,
I've used E-Loader to upgrade the OS, but never to back-up patterns.
I have a couple of questions for you:

1) How much memory does it takes to back up patters? Let's say that
I wanted to back-up one pattern that was 32 bars long. How much
memory on the computer would that take up? The reason I ask is that
I'll be using my friend's computer to store these back-ups.

2) Is there any way to burn these back-ups onto a CD once they're on
the computer (just so we're VERY sure that we'll still have these
patterns - even if something goes horribly wrong with his PC)?

Thanks a lot for you help,
Fab

Since the pattern is midi and the sound waves don't get transfered,
you are probably only looking at a very small amount. I would guess
if you saved all the patterns it would only be a few MB. MIDI
information is small, like KB per song.

Patterns and songs can be stored on the computer's hard drive and
then burned to CD-R, RWs. They will be stored as standard midi
files. The size of each file depends on the data stored in the
pattern. I have never backed up an e-mu sequencer that was at 0%
remaining, so I have no idea how big the total of all patterns and
songs can be.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies, guys. It helps a lot. I've got another
question for you: Have you ever noticed a degradation in sound
quality when you reload the pattern back onto the XL-7 from your
computer, or is the sound exactly the same quality? I'm probably
just being paranoid, but I'd hate for the sound to get degraded in
any way (especially after my recent discovery that my audio outs are
not up-to-par).

There could be no degredation. It's just not possible when moving the files
as midi control data only. No audio is actually transferred.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
