12VDC Lamp

12VDC Lamp

2005-02-06 by vibesart

Greetings -

on the subject of loose or weird connections - I stopped using the
lamp on my XL7 months ago because when it is plugged in it causes the
machine to spark and sputter in a way that is scary - all the lights
flash - strange tramatic sounds come forth - machine crashes etc

anyone else had this problem?

I am trying to figure out if it is a bad light or something deeper

thanks

Ed

Sounds like a short to me. The VDC connector is indeed a power socket.
Completing the circuit with the lamp is causing a system short - if its
getting to the main board (LEDs flashing etc) it could be a short with the
power supply - check the wires going from the PSU to the lamp connector.

Also, call E-mu service 'cause what the hell do I know? ;D

eek!!!

sad to say i had my BNC ;amp for xactly a week now and it does seem a
bit flimsy. and it's the same model as the one emu sold for it. but in
different packaging

The lamp connector provides a LOW wattage. Some of the 12 volt
lights out there draw more power than this connector can reliably
deliver. I found that putting 14v lamps in gave me a bit less light
and lessened the power draw enough to keep my PX7 stable when the
light is in use.

Someone must be doing LED little lites with BNC connectors by now??
That will cut the current draw by loads

Yup - I have the same problem, when I try to use the lamp, the
machine just crashes and it usually takes me 2 or 3 tries to get it
to come back up. I just don't use the lamp.
