How to make two monitor match?

How to make two monitor match?

2009-11-16 by Phiegze

I have a Spyder two and two Samsung 213T monitors and I can't get the calibration to make them match.

I'm using WinXP32bit and software 2.2.3.5
I have two almost identical ATI Radeon Cards (one for each monitor) one is a 1600 and one is a 1650. (one has a fan and one is silent). One monitor is 1.5 yrs older than the other.

I turn down the backlight on both, and I've tried from level fifty down to level zero. I check them both within minutes and both in a very dim or darkened room.

They never come out to match? I could easily get along with just one being properly profiled but with two not matching I can't trust either or the Spyder.

Will the new Spyder do a better job? What am I doing wrong?
I have no confidence in the Spyder at this point but before I spend more money or switch brands I'd like get some advice. Especially if you think I can get this to work.

Do other folks get both monitors looking the same?

Thanks

Possibly, but because of hardware improvements, and software
improvements, such as the StudioMatch tool for determining optimal
target settings for multiple displays.

Well, you need to use Measured Mode, and choose a Luminance level that
both can match, then calibrate both to target values appropriate to
your working space. Even then, there may be visible differences. But
you don't tell us in what why they fail to match (gray balance? color
gamut?) or in what application they fail to match; after all, profiles
can't fix color matching in non-color managed applications, like Word,
PowerPoint or Internet Explorer...

My buddy has the same dual 213T setup. One thing I've noticed is the 213T's viewing angle is very small. Meaning any slight head movement will change contrast and color of an image. That could be partially what you are seeing.

Do the method as David recommends and post back.

Be sure the two displays are at an angle to each other as well, not in
the same plane, so that each is perpendicular to where your eyes are
located when viewing. This will eliminate any color difference caused
by viewing the left display from right of center and the right one
from left of center, which would double whatever color difference
being off center causes.
