Please Help with Portakit

Please Help with Portakit

2010-02-11 by Eduardo Ojeda

Does anybody know a procedure to reset a Portakit to factory settings?

After a battery replacement, I am having problems triggering notes from external pads. If I try to play a drum roll, I can only trigger one (1) note every 2 seconds approx.

Internal pads are working fine, drum rolls trigger all notes. I guess resetting it to factory, might solve the problem.

Help please,

Ed.

Thanks Patrice,

I have read the manual from head to toe and there is not a parameter that could be set for this.

Regards,

Ed.

Page 84 in the manual says: "CLEAR is a utility function which allows any kit, song or sequence to be initialised with it's default settings". The "default settings" are explained on page 99

The question is: Does the Portakit still know what "default settings" are after a battery change?

I don't know if there is something like a global factory reset. The common way would be to import a SysEx backup if you have one (what I doubt...). Probably some kind Portakit owner supplies you with a SysEx dump if the CLEAR function does not provide the desired result?

Thanks for the advice. I will perform a "Clear All" function and test again. No, I don't have a SysEx dump.

Thanks again,

Ed.

The "Clear All" function does reset the Portakit to factory settings, as near as I can tell. Not that I've owned my Portakit since new, but this is what I've discovered from messing around. I don't recall whether my copy of the manual lists the default settings; they may be available in a complete manual. I also had to replace the battery, but I'm going to have to redo the job, or replace the battery again, since it doesn't seem to hold a charge.

Good luck,

Jim Stewart

Ni-cad batteries need time to juice up. Have you left your Portakit
plugged in and turned on for a day? My experience is w/ the SDS-7s. When I
changed the batteries in mine, I needed to leave them running for 12 hours or
better.

Well, surprising it exists on the drumkat ... & like Kat had copied
quite a few things from Simmons ...
I thought I had seen it on the Portakit ...

Anyway I'll let you know if I find anything.
good luck,

Patrice.

No, I have not left on "on" for more than 4 hours. I will leave it "on" for a day. Hope it works.

Well thanks for all your help; my Portakit is back, alive and kicking...... The CLEAR ALL function restored it to close to "factory settings" and now is working fine.

Made in 1988, 22 years old and it is performing like "brand new".

Thanks again,

E

No, the problem was the lack of having "Delete All". After I did, it went back to normal.
