OK ROLAND here is the precise operation if ever it could change
anything...
It's word for word what Dave sent to me when I experienced problems...

Select SCSIO
Select 'format one disk'
Ignore the message
Select 'Format all disks'
Disk should be formatted with 40 'floppy disks'
Last one will say 'BAD FORMAT
Ignore this
You can then format one disk and give each disk a name.
  Say XKits 1, X kits 35 etc ...

Are you using this way to format ?

Patrice.

Now about this message 'could not load header'...

Here is what dave told me about a specific situation ...don't know if
it can help you but it could give an idea...

"If you change Syquest disk (say swapping from Keyboards to Drums)
you may see some error messages when you initially try &
access the Syquest after changing disk ('cannot load header')
Do not worry, simply select the SCSI0 again and SDX will see the
disk..."

so it should mean that the SDX is losing contact with the disk ...

What about Master or Slave status ? Id number ?

I Think the list is configured to remove attachments. I'm not sure I can
change it either since we've lost our list owner...

Good to know. Might not be a bad idea to create a whole new group if the original owner is lost. What happened? - Roland PS I'll probably just post most of the issues with word docs or something and then providing links to the pages here. I don't want to bore people and clutter up the place. ( Unless you all think it's worthwhile ?!?!? ) PPS - Patrice, no luck with the directions you gave although I deeply appreciate the info. I tried for about 2 hours using different methods under OS 2.1G.

Re: [Simmons Drums] SDX Formatting Screenshots

I think the subject is right at the place it deserves...
For me no problem... but we can see that in private if people feel
bored or offended ...

But I think it's really interesting for anyone of the group who uses
the SDX.
It stays the Simmons Flagship ... ;- )
& a good example of the classic problems ...

About the HD...Mmmh...
could you find & try an external HD , Zip or syquest ?

Anyway,
I remember that it always been a hard time to format my HDs...
Keep trying , it might work without apparent reason...
The method I gave you is the official one...& I suppose there are not
many other ways to do it ...

Could you describe precisely yours ?

Now the SDX unit or the HD might have a problem...Did you speak to the
previous owner ?
How did he use it ? with no Hard drive ???
I'm surprised ...

The most surprising is that the unit recognize the HD but can't finish
the formatting...
You could try the same method with different OS ...
the system might be corrupted...

Be sure that your Mobile phone isn't agains't your console, it might
pertube the engine...
It can sounds stupid but... who knows ...
Be sure as well to have your midi disconnected !

Good Luck...
Patrice.

PS When I read my faxes from dave I fall on that ; "SDX was designed
for a non removable drive"...
so it should work ! ...at some point...

OT: short story on the missing list owner

rolandbrenner@... skrev:

I don't know. Scott (or Scott Casiotone as he was known here) just
disappeared but prior to that I was appointed moderator (fortunately)
and I've done my best to keep it working. It has been very little fuzz
since, but I cannot change fundamental settings which is sad 'cause we
all agreed that filteriing out autobots and other spammers upon joining
would be great. This doesn't work 'cause by default all applications are
sent to the owner, not to the moderator(s) (tested). Hence occasional
spamming, mainly from that annoying "bikerguy" who joins from now and then.

Scott's last work on the group was;
May 2, 2007 10:27 pm (action 68 of 111)

And I was appointed moderator;
Jul 24, 2005 5:57 am (action 39 of 111)

I've googled on site name, versions of Scott's alias and only found old
entries dating back to the time before May 2, 2007. I did it again
tonight and have in fact mailed a MySpace user with some hope (if only
tiny).

Now you know... 514 members isn't the easiest task to move and convince
to stay etc + we'd loose the archive if not staying member of the
original list etc, aso, mm, usw... I could remove most of these by
erasing all not receiving mails, but who knows how often they check the
archives and we'd still be having the keeping of the message archive
issue... :(

OT: one more note...

2008-04-10 by jesper

One more note - I hope Scott's still with us on this sphere 'cause he's
a friendly guy and I'd like to believe he thought he did everything
necessary when he handed over the controls. Too bad he gave me the wheel
but not the ignition key...
