What jack size would you prefer the Bridechamber Klee and/or MFOS panels to be punched for (if any)?

o 1/4" -(this is the same as all other Bridechamber panels)
o 3.5mm -(approximately 7mm or so)
o none -(prefer tic marks to drill yourself)

Re: POLL about boring your own bridechamber panels

quick note about this poll: assume that bridechamber panels were punched for a small hole already (one that would either A) accommodate the smallest part for that function, or B) would just be a small "pilot" hole in which everyone would be required to step-drill out themselves.)

scott, if you can't do this or are not willing, just let me know and ill pull the poll. im polling this question as a follow up to the previous poll.

There's an additional benefit to boring-your-own that Will and I realised last night - has to do with the switch holes. See - we'd really prefer, for the momentary switches, to use the NKK bat-style that matches the all the other MOTM switches rather than a push-button. So if the switch holes were all a minimum size, too, or a 1/8" pilot hole, people could make their own decisions about this kind of thing too. Now, in our case, we'd already figured we'd use a couple washers to do the trick, but if there are small holes, we don't have to. <shrug>

Wow, tough call!  If I were doing it for myself, I would do one of two things. If I went with the horizontal version I’d go off the standard MOTM grid and move filter A’s jacks up into the section with the controls and move section B down a bit etc. But if I really was going to build this I would do the vertical design but in 2U instead of 3U by combining the Frequency and Frequency CV controls into a dual concentric pot (if possible), moving the Mode switches down to where the Frequency CV controls were and then move the Input jacks up and the Output jacks over underneath the Input jacks.

Yeah, I always balk at moving jack above pots, though that's a little silly. If you have more than one row of modules, you're going to get cords over your pots anyway, right?
What do others feel about this?

I really wanted to do 2U, but I don't think folks (and I count myself as one of these folks) have access to concentric pots.

This is a difficult panel. It doesn't fit into 2U. I voted for the
vertical, because I didn't like switches mixed in with jacks on the
bottom on the horizontal design.

Re: [ModularSynthPanels] New poll for ModularSynthPanels

Definitely no moving jacks above pots! Very important part of the MOTM layout style.

What if the Mode switch were a 4-position slide switch? Would it fit beside the CV Invert switch to make a 2U layout? I see from the schematic that it's only single pole, and SP4T slide switches are readily available. For instance Digi-Key has this one for $2:

If it wouldn't fit, could we replace the CV Invert switch by a switch on the Frequency CV pot, to make more room for the Mode slide switch? Maybe a switched pot is a little easier to find than concentric ones? For instance Digi-Key has this 100K linear carbon switched pot for $3.50:

I'd really like a 2U layout.

Oops, maybe the SPST switch on that pot isn't enough to implement the cv invert feature? Somebody smarter than me needs to address that.

Well, the way I see it we need at minimum, for each filter, four pots, a rotary or something like that, and three jacks.

Four-position slide? It's defo non-MOTM standard...

What about moving up the rotary switches to align with the pots on either side and locating the CV Invert toggle switches right below the rotaries, also between and aligned with two pots?  All jacks at the bottom.  There would be space for a second CV input for each filter.   This would be a variant of the horizontal design, placing all the controls for each filter together, but isolating the jacks at the bottom, MOTM-style.

Well, you can almost always fit a toggle somewhere, and the CV Invert is just there because there's plenty of room. We could even get rid of them and add an Inverted CV Input with attenuator, kind of like Richard said.
The reason I was going towards switches and "non-standard" MOTM spacing (does this really mean anything anymore, with MOTM using different knobs and LED displays and such?) was to set it visually apart from other modules in the system.

I just don't see any way the 2U will work, and I'd like to skip the small-pot spacing on this one.
You're still getting two full state-variable filters in 3U....

Oops, maybe the SPST switch on that pot isn't enough to implement the cv invert feature? Somebody smarter than me needs to address that.

I think I prefer the vertical design.

Well I think I'd like a second audio input with an attenuator (for each filter) and a jack for the -CV. That would fill the panel nicely. I'd also normalize Out A to In B, and maybe Out B to my proposed attenuated Input on A for feedback (if it works!) But of course, I've never been dissapointed with a Bridechamber panel design.

I don't like either. It definitely can and should be a 2u design. Use small knobs. Personally I don't have any attachment to the motm knob grid - modules that go off the grid make the modular easier to use IMHO - easier to find the appropriate knob while tweaking. The only design elements that I find unchangeable is the jack grid at the bottom and a black background (sorry modcan) - again, just MHO.

Sorry. Conserving space in my modular is a major concern of mine. Even though I have 4x24u to work with here, it's going to fill up, and I don't really have room after that. I've taken quite a few things that used to be 2u and made them 1u.

I have nothing against the small-knob layout, but the rotary switch causes the problem there, not only behind the panel, but for the silkscreen legending.

Another possibility -- a "Spread" control like the "Divergence" control in the Cyndustries module. I'd just implement it with a dual-gang pot, so we wouldn't have to add any circuitry. I wonder how she did the Series/ Parallel control. I assume she used the same PCB, right? Probably she did it passively. Anyone know?

Not sure if the second audio input will work without a mixer. It goes straight into the CMOS.
Maybe I'll just do a big yellow wasp in the middle ; )
