Wow, tough call! If I were doing it for myself, I would do one of two things. If I went with the horizontal version I’d go off the standard MOTM grid and move filter A’s jacks up into the section with the controls and move section B down a bit etc. But if I really was going to build this I would do the vertical design but in 2U instead of 3U by combining the Frequency and Frequency CV controls into a dual concentric pot (if possible), moving the Mode switches down to where the Frequency CV controls were and then move the Input jacks up and the Output jacks over underneath the Input jacks.

Yeah, I always balk at moving jack above pots, though that's a little silly. If you have more than one row of modules, you're going to get cords over your pots anyway, right? What do others feel about this?I really wanted to do 2U, but I don't think folks (and I count myself as one of these folks) have access to concentric pots.Scott DeyoThe BridechamberJealous Edison Record KompanyOn Aug 22, 2009, at 3:55 PM, John L Rice wrote:Wow, tough call! Definitely no moving jacks above pots! Very important part of the MOTM layout style. What if the Mode switch were a 4-position slide switch? Would it fit beside the CV Invert switch to make a 2U layout? I see from the schematic that it's only single pole, and SP4T slide switches are readily available. For instance Digi-Key has this one for $2:If it wouldn't fit, could we replace the CV Invert switch by a switch on the Frequency CV pot, to make more room for the Mode slide switch? Maybe a switched pot is a little easier to find than concentric ones? For instance Digi-Key has this 100K linear carbon switched pot for $3.50:I'd really like a 2U layout.skwOn Aug 22, 2009, at 4:48 PM, Scott Deyo wrote:

Well, the way I see it we need at minimum, for each filter, four pots, a rotary or something like that, and three jacks.
Four-position slide? It's defo non-MOTM standard...

Oops, maybe the SPST switch on that pot isn't enough to implement the cv invert feature? Somebody smarter than me needs to address that.

I don't like either. It definitely can and should be a 2u design. Use small knobs. Personally I don't have any attachment to the motm knob grid - modules that go off the grid make the modular easier to use IMHO - easier to find the appropriate knob while tweaking. The only design elements that I find unchangeable is the jack grid at the bottom and a black background (sorry modcan) - again, just MHO.
Sorry. Conserving space in my modular is a major concern of mine. Even though I have 4x24u to work with here, it's going to fill up, and I don't really have room after that. I've taken quite a few things that used to be 2u and made them 1u.

Well I think I'd like a second audio input with an attenuator (for each filter) and a jack for the -CV. That would fill the panel nicely. I'd also normalize Out A to In B, and maybe Out B to my proposed attenuated Input on A for feedback (if it works!) But of course, I've never been dissapointed with a Bridechamber panel design.

Not sure if the second audio input will work without a mixer. It goes straight into the CMOS.
Maybe I'll just do a big yellow wasp in the middle ; )Scott DeyoThe BridechamberJealous Edison Record Kompany
