Data wheel going mad!

Data wheel going mad!

2003-05-11 by khjkkkkk khjkhjk

Hi everyone,I just got this baby and its amazing.I upgraded it to 2.0 OS and everything seems to be great except the data wheel control. When I turn it slowly it works fine , but when I try to go faster with turning, it jumps like creazy. For example, when I wanna sellect new pattern, and if I move it faster its gonna jump to like next bank and sometimes it will even go into opposite direction so I have to wheel it realy slowly and I am afraid its gonna even be worse in the future. Is there a way to fix this or is it just a bug?Is anyone else having this problem? Thanks

Mine does this and I can tell you that in my unit it is a hardware,
not a software problem. I have ordered the replacement part which
was about $10... If you push down on it and turn you will have more
luck.

When you push it down it does work better, also if the mashine is on for long time it works better. Thanks guys for your replies. I guess its just the nature of the beast.

I have exactly the same problem. Yes, I even got my XL-7 repleaced by
another one, but after a while it got the same problem again.

Since so many have has this problem, I believe it's something about
the hardware. Perhaps not absolutley the best hardware components...
If anyone finds a solution, please tell me about it.

RE: [xl7] Re: Data wheel going mad!

2003-05-12 by Andre Lewis

The problem is oxidization I believe, this problem is typical on rotory knobs.
Unless someone knows differently (Aaron??) this is fixable by using an
antioxidizer, like DeOxit which works like a charm. On a side note, NEVER use a
product like this on the grease packed knobs, it will dissolve the grease and
make your knob move too easily. If the data wheel is an optical component (some
types are) there is less chance of easily fixing it.

Re: Data wheel going mad!

The skipping knob problem is caused by oxidation. After reading some
earlier posts I tried DeOxit (what did I have to loose?) with great
results. Simply power off the unit, remove the knob, spray a small
amount into the encoder and spin the encoder for a while. The
encoder now works better than new.

I also used some moving contact lubricant (MCL) in an attempt to
return the smooth feel and help prevent this problem returning. The
feel is good but I will have to report back on any protective
qualities in a few months.
