Crash kills all

Crash kills all

2003-03-10 by mikexl7

well i was working like a dog all weekend to finish this track and
wile i was putting the finishing bits in place I saved the pattern.

No worning at all the XL7 crashed and I lost all my patterns as well
as all my presets. I have some of it backed up mind you but the
presets are gone for good.

This is the exact reason I spent 2000.00 bucks on the XL. I was
sick of computer crashes. It is times like this that I feel like a
fool for spending my cash and investing my energy in the wrighting
of electronic music. I truly wish computers and synths where
actualy more reliable than people. But i guess that will never
happen as long as it is people that are building the boxes.

Well like some one said just a little wile back.

BACK UP YOUR MUSIC.

P.S. can some one tell me if there is a way to back up presets ?

Re: Crash kills all

Thanks for the info. I take it i record the info to my computer
sequencer?

I want to start sequencing off my computer again, at least for a
wile. And now that I can restore my XL to its shiped state with out
loosing anything. How do i get this thing to be sequenced off a PC?

I was trying to do this for quite a wile today and got no where.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Yeah make sure u have no sysex filters on in midi chain

I take u mean synchronised,ie get logic to send midi clock?
turn MP7 base tempo to 0 under the midi menu and it should
sync to Xternal clock
U can set logic to transmit under options/song settings /sync........
>I was trying to do this for quite a wile today and got no where.
Personally I prefer getting patterns from E-loader! running 2
sequencers together is normally a pain in the arse and at least
u keep ur data in 2 locations :))

1 more thought on sysex

Try too be organized about using this method to back up presets!
As re-sending sysex banks to the mp7 will wipe current machine
state banks

Yikes!

Okay, I bought the box for its sounds rather than sequencing, but I've been
suckered in by the nifty interface and have put a LOT of patterns in there.

And I was just getting around to doing my own presets.

If you'll pardon my ghoulish interest, what version of the operating system
were you on? And what were you doing just as the thing crashed? A pattern
save? Anything funky, MIDI-wise?

Also, this shows WHY we need a decent host-machine-based patch
editor/librarian for this beast!

And some sort of full system backup would be nice, too. I mean, something
that when loaded back onto a virgin system would put you back exactly where
you were. (Assuming you have the same ROMs in the same positions.) It
wouldn't have to be pretty, just a pair of buttons within Eloader.

OUCH... condolences. That's the kind of incident that makes you want
to set all your gear on fire and take up the Amish faith...

You know, I just bought an XL-7 and I've done a LOT of research into
it... and I was convinced it was a solid box... but this kind of
makes me a little skittish. Seriously, if this happened to me, I
would very likely end up with a big pile of smashed bits that USED to
be an XL-7.

I understand that sometimes things like this happen... but PLEASE
tell me its a very UNcommon occurrence...

Again, condolences to you... I know this is really half assed, but
hey, now you can begin fresh and make newer, cooler stuff :)

Ya i was thinking about that one, one has to be thoughtfull about
these things.

Dam I am starting to regain my cool after yesterdays crash, I think
at this point I can say that I have learned my lesson once and for
all. Funny how these things take a wile to sink in. Maby I am just
a little slow in that way. I am going to have the USB of this thing
permently pluged into a computer from here on in. Save stuff at the
end of each serious day of work.

It's not like breaking into the music market place is not hard
enough with out loosing all your work evry few months.
