custom painting

2002-07-10 by erik_magrini@Baxter.com

Of course I'll post pictures of it! As for where you can get it done, I
did mine myself. Took me a bout 3-5 minutes to completely disassemble the
whole thing. Then I sanded it all down and primered it. The base coat is
metallic blue on the front that fades up to black on the top and back.
Over this I applied tons of coats of some of that color shifting paint
(chromallusion, custom mixed at an autobody shop) so that the whole thing
shifts from blue to purple and and everything inbetween depending on how
you look at it and the lighting. Over all I'd say it's quite the sight :)

Right now it's out getting the lettering screen-printed back on, that was
the only thing I couldn't do myself. It's very pricey (since I'm only
getting one unit done), but if anyone's interested let me know and I'll
see what I can do.

Cool I am thinking of doing it too and any information from you will
help, or maybe you can even do it for me just tell me how much you
want.
I am sure that it will raise the XL/MP value.
One question, will that will void the warranty, even tough it is only
cosmetic change.

It'll definitely void your warrenty, you need to completely disassemble
the whole unit. I can definitely help people who want to get the
lettering put back on after they paint their cases, but like I said it's
not cheap at all (probably $70-80 just for that). After trying
unsuccesfully for weeks to find a place to actually do the work, it became
pretty apprent that no one in my area wanted to work on only a single
unit. However, at the last place I had on my list to try, I got lucky as
the owner is a drummer who thought my little project was cool and he took
sympathy on me. I just called him and he said that yes he can do other
cases, but because he needs to reconfigure all his printing equipment for
just a single unit, it'll be kind of expensive.

If anyone's interested in this (like I said it WILL void your warrenty),
contact me off the list and we can work something out. BTW, keep in mind
that the plastic LCD cover will still be yellow and orange too (the
writing), it took me far longer to fix that issue than to actaully paint
the whole case :)

Wow, scary looking peeps! That's cool that they have a service out there
to do that, but their prices are insane. It'd be like over $300 to paint
an MPC with something simple.
