usb for what ?

2002-04-20 by hysham2000

Hello everybody,

I have just received my xl7 today and in fact I've got a lot to learn
but this machine give me a good impression and doesn't seem too
difficult to learn...I installed the new os without problem with my
midi interface but I wonder what this usb port is suppose to do ? I
tried to connect this port with my pc but it isn't recognized by
windows98... I searched the faq without succes...

Sorry if this question seems stupid to you !

Thank you for your help.

USB greatly speeds up sequence transfers versus using MIDI. You need to
have the latest version of E-Loader which has the USB support and
drivers. It can be downloaded from:

Thank you so much !

Now I understand what this usb port is for... I installed the right
driver and windows recognize him but now I've got an hardware problem
with this port : it's broken and moves somewhere in the box...I saw
the first time I plugged my usb it was fragile and make a real
attention to go softly without succes... I have to send this machine
back...
Does someone has the same experience ?

yes I had not looked at the usb port on my box till i pluged in my
usb cable. It seemed not to be mounted properly in the inside of
the box. I very carefully pressed the conecter down. There are two
little bumps on the bottom of the usb conecter that have to be
mounted firmly on the board, mine where loose. So a little press
down caused them to click into place and all was good. You may want
to take a quick look inside the box......thats if you are
comfortable doing so.

well hope that helps.

Wow, same thing (USB connector came loose on first
plug-in) happened to me, and I was dreading having to
send the box away to have it fixed.

Will we be voiding the warranty by re-securing it
inside the box?

--- Thank you for your answers Mike and Roger, I'm going to send it
back to change this machine for a new one, I prefer to act this way !
( I'm not an electronician expert...)I don't know if it's a common
problem with this groove box but Emu should maybe take an eye on
this..
See you.

I checked with our Mechanical Engineer on this, and he says that there
were issues with the connector sometimes not getting seated properly in
the cutout in the housing. There should be no electrical issues here,
purely mechanical. As Mike said, you should be able to simply wiggle the
jack a bit and it should snap into place (I believe you would wiggle it
gently up and down as opposed to right to left).

I can understand Isham's concern and desire to have a perfect machine
out of the box. But if you are willing to just wiggle the connector a
bit and get it to snap into place all should be fine from then on, and
it will save you the down time of sending the unit to get it repaired.
But absolutely only do whatever you are comfortable with.

We have instituted measures in Manufacturing to see that this doesn't
happen any more. I'm assuming that very few people will see this kind of
problem. For those that have, we are of course very sorry for any
inconvenience this may have caused.

as for this issue just press down, there are two little bumps that
have to click into the board. do not go up would be my advice :)

just press down with care.

Mike

as for my data weel not a problem here with my xl but i did have
that problem with my E5000. Had to send it away. It has not come
back but i kinda dread the day it do.

Are the pots for this low quality in emu gear? If so is there
anyone who can recomend a supper high quality pot that would be a
better? I have no more warrenty on this unit so i would install it
myself.

Thanks for the additional info.

I just installed a new sound ROM, and while the box
was open I gently pushed down on the USB connector to
settle it. Pretty simple, and the problem was solved
without letting go of the precious unit.
