Your help is much appreciated

I got a new mp-7 yesterday (returned the demo box of the Emu
salesman).
I updated before from 1.17 to 1.18 with windows. No problem so far.
So my computer settings seem allright.
The new box came with 1.01.
I uploaded the 1.17.dli. When it was done I forgot to hit Enter (MP-
7) to let it test Checksum etc.
I powered it down to go further to OS 1.18. Tried to install 1.18.dli
but an error message turned up on the computer saying something
like: "The requested file did not match the file (extension)". I
rebooted the PC, the mp-7, checked cables of my midisport, tried to
upload version 1.17 but it wouldn´t accept the file.

I tried to initialise the mp-7, but Your handbook does not mention
that option.

What can I do?

2. Sorry to say: I received the new mp-7 with a display thats not
baklit. I will have to return it to my dealer. Still I would love to
know how to update.

I think you power on while holding both cursors, then scroll until you get to the factory reset option. I'm sorry I don't remember exactly what it's called, but I think it's like "Initialize User All" or something. Since it's a new box, it shouldn't matter as you won't lose anything.

You don't have to install 1.17 first before 1.18. In fact, you shouldn't,
because one of the bugs with 1.17 was the download process (sequences above
70% full got lost).

You need to download commandprep10.dli first, then xm7v118.dli.

It should be documented in the readme.txt file contained in the zip (that you
read, right?) =)

Oh certainly, Aaron, I read the text file!
Thanx for answering.
This is exactly what I did:

1 - reboot XL-7/MP-7/P2500 holding down Home/Enter
2 - if you already have 1.17, skip to step 6
3 - using E-loader, download commandprep10.dli
4 - when asked to "Replace bootloader?" press enter
5 - when instructed, reboot XL-7/MP-7/P2500, again holding down
Home/Enter
6 - using E-loader, download command118.dli
7 - follow prompts

There is a html-textfile on your website, that explains the updating
process further: after the mp-7 received the midifile
commandprep10.dli (which worked fine) I should have pressed the enter-
button of the mp-7 (checksome test etc.) I forgot that step which is
not mentioned above. So the mp-7 stayed with the 1.01 version,
showing 1.01 and straight behind 1.0x, I believe. When I tried to
download command118.dli after that I receive an error message on my
computer saing: the file type doesnt match the requested file (or
similar to this). nor ca I repeat step one with commandprep10.dli ,
same error. Now I am stuck and can´t update. How do I solve it?

Thank you guys but I solved it myself:
In case somebody else is experiencung this:

I had to reinstall the java runtime on my computer, initialised the
mp-7, then it worked. But the E-loader/microsoft java conination made
to my laptop freeze up several times when I uploaded the MP-7-
patterns from CD. (Very good thing, you can completely overwrite the
factory patterns, a bunch are IMO simply yak!)

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
