Just bought an MP-7

Just bought an MP-7

2004-08-08 by guruinu2

Greetings, I just (about an hour ago) bought an MP-7 on E-Bay with
installed Roms X-Lead, Sounds Of ZR, Beat Garden and Siedlaczek
Orchestra (not installed). The only ROM I am interested in keeping is
Beat Garden. Can I take out all the other ROMS including the MP-7 Mo
Phat to Make room for the other ROMS that I want (Protazoa, World
Expedition, Beat Garden and Protean or do I need to keep the MP-7
ROM that makes it what it is installed? I am guitarist with very
little synth experience as I am sure you can tell. Thanks in
advance,SCB

Hi
Yes you can pull the ones you dont want out and leave the Beat Garden
rom in there.
Dont think the any of the roms will acutally say what they are on
them so it could be a bit hit or miss if you leave the correct one in
there.. (not sure what code numbers would be on there either..)
The unit seems to change the order of them in respect to how it see's
them, so they dont appear in slot order.. (0, 1, 2, 3)
Theres 8 screaws underneath the unit, so flip the unit over and place
on something soft to protect the front panel knobs.
Take the formentioned screaws out, then you will be able to open the
2 halfs like a book. Carefull as there are ribbon cables between
them.. it will only open out 1 way because of these.
You will see the roms in one of the corners on the PCB, they look
like simm modules and there are 4 slots.
Unplug the unit from the mains..
Make sure you earth yourself to discharge any static that you may
have picked up of a carpet etc. The roms and the command station
could be damaged by static, its the same as changing anything in your
PC.
They unclip the same as simm memory modules, fitted is the same in
reverse.
Check to see that all the ribbon cables are pushed home as well
before re-assembly.
Make sure you tighten the screaws back down when you put the unit
back together.. you may well get an anoying hum if you dont!
Good luck!
Gonz

of ROMs. They might have some left, i wouldnt know..
Maybe try:-

Incoming Midi clock not mirrored to outputs as claimed in manual

2004-08-08 by Stu

Hi,

The title just about sums it up. I've been jamming with some friends and we
tried to set it all up so my rig sends midi clock to his PX-7, which then
sends midi clock alongside note and controller nessages to a pair of
ms2000s. But the PX-7 just doesn't want to send clock out when it's set to
external clock, despite the fact that the manual says it 'mirrors' external
clock to the outputs. I realise this isn't going to get fixed, I just wanted
to know if it was known about already?

Clarification sought: I thought even with OS2.0, the e-mu could be
used EITHER as a clock master OR as a slave. (It cannot echo/mirror
incoming midi clock data.)

BTW, I greatly appreciate the clock improvements (features and
timing) under OS2.0!!

Thanks.

I did try switching transmit midi clock on for both the outputs individually
and together but it made no difference. I'm not that bothered coz I have a
decent midi router but it does say in the PX-7 manual that external clock is
mirrored to the outputs. However, I've tried every possible option in the
midi menu and nothing works.

Hmmm, I thought that worked at one point, but apparently it doesn't
now, as i just tried it too. Merge doesn't do it either. Hmmph.

When I first got the E-Mu (OS 1.18??), either I wrote an e-mail or
called to report several clock/Midi-In-Out-Thru issues. (I tested all
kinds of master-slave configurations with a software sequencer and a
couple of "intelligent arrangers.")

I was told that the issue of the MIDI clock data not being passed
through was not a bug since the gear was not intended to do that.

I just kinda figured trying to merge/stabilize midi clock bytes would
be a waste of the E-Mu's computing power.

As long as people are still suggesting features for the next
imaginary OS upgrade, how about a "SLAVE IF THERE'S INCOMING MIDI
CLOCK" function? (just joking)

Don't joke, auto-sync would be great! :)
