Hi Folks I got a used Planet Earth module at Guitar Center tonight and immediately transferred the ROM to my PX-7. The shell of this unit is now for sale: add any E-MU ROM and enjoy the polyphony and effexts of this rackmount synth. I will accept any reasonable offer (in the neighborhood of $100) -m@

I have had a Planet Earth for some time now and love the sound set, but got a PX7 recently because I needed the pads and the sequencer. I was even thinking of buying a ROM for the PX7 that contained the Planet Earth soundset, and selling the Planet Earth. But if I can just transfer the ROM over ... wow! How do you do it? Does it invalidate warranty? > The shell of this unit is now for sale: add any E-MU ROM and enjoy the > polyphony and effexts of this rackmount synth. I could take out the ROM from my Planet Earth, plug in the ROM for an Proteus 2000, and I'd have a full Proteus 2000? Sorry if these are noob questions, but I just have begun to tap the potential of these EMU synths I bought, and, well, I guess I *am* a noob. :-) -- Darrell Burgan http://ampcast.com/palancar http://palancar.net darrell@...

Yup, you should also check out EMU's website - they are having a sale on ROMs: http://www.emu.com/products/category.asp?category=635&maincategory=632 Also check with DJ61 on this list, he can get you several ROMs for even cheaper. I bought a Protean Drums ROM (PX-7) from him and have just ordered the Proteus Pop (P2500/PK6) ROM from EMU to put in my XL- 7. Damn Palancar! Check out the manual. "Installing Sound SIMMS" is page 359. See ya on another forum. :) Darrell Burgan wrote: > How do you do it? Does it invalidate warranty? -- Sebastien, -=-=-=-=-= We used to write taglines with pencil & paper, my son.

Anyway, I've successfully transferred over the Planet Earth ROM, and all is well! I also bought a ROM online - nice sale EMU is having. So I guess I have an empty Planet Earth chassis to sell now too. :-) OK one question. My Planet Earth only has three SIMM sockets. Two over on the left (when facing the front of the unit), and one on the right near the power supply. There are also two templates on the motherboard for additional SIMM sockets, but they are empty - no sockets installed there. ANYWAY so my question is this - what is the SIMM socket on the right over by the power supply? It has a 72-pin SIMM in it that says "Advantage" on it, along with two chips labeled as follows: AMC 55954 Repton IM434 A132-1x16-66T-EMU B5117-37W21886 and an OKI Thailand chip with inscrutable numbers on it Is this thing a Flash RAM SIMM by any chance? I was afraid to bring it over to the PX7 for fear of frying something, but if it's a standard EMU Flash RAM I'd hate for it to go to waste ... ;-)

LEAVE THAT ALONE! Heh, just kidding. It's just RAM for the operating system, nothing special. If you put it in any other socket, you'll most likely destroy the memory chip, the motherboard, or both. -Aaron --- dburga01 <darrell@...> wrote: > ANYWAY so my question is this - what is the SIMM socket on the right > over by the power supply? Alright which one of you two want to give me the best deal on this shell? So the planet earth only holds 2 roms total, right? 64 voice? Or if you want to use it as a partial trade on roms, ZR, Vintage, Sied... --- In xl7@yahoogroups.com, Darrell Burgan <darrell@p...> wrote: > > I got a used Planet Earth module at Guitar Center tonight and > > immediately transferred the ROM to my PX-7. > > You can do that?!?!?
