It is like a gated effect, but you can use different patterns and have the 
velocites ramp up and down in note intervals too.  I suppose you could get 
close to the same thing LFO's, but it would take ages longer to program 
compared to just adding an effect :)

Mmmm, understood, I guess I was assuming that a 'slicer' effect was more 
of a modulable gater or stutter effect....it could still be fun to do 
something like this useing different randomized lfo shapes on separate 
layers though, could be like a continuous morphing machine or something. I 
may have to try that...mmmm
