I have/done so within the past year. I use a 6400 Ultra. Nice results. Created an "ambient" sample type of rom. I was not as efficient as Emu in cramming samples on the rom but the few dozen I put on a 16MB rom added quite a bit of sound possibility I did not have before with my XL-1 turbo, XL-7 & PK-6 machines with 9 factory roms. I have been meaning to write the instructions and tips for the group on how to "author" a rom, but haven't had the chance. Could not find an equivalent rom part, there was some research by group members a few years ago, I doubt there is one because there are 2 eeprom types used on the card, one for presets & one for samples. I bought 3 Emu 16MB flash roms from EBay within the last 2 years, they are hard to find....there is a 32MB one up there right now but a bit pricey, >$300usd. Anyone had any success creating their own sample libraries/roms using the E4 / Emulator IV or anything similar? Know if there is any generic old memory (kingston, etc) that is compatible for these roms? I'm tempted to get a E4 strictly for this. I used to have one but sold it long before i even though of getting a command station. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
