Re: [xl7] Re: Setup for Sequencing Hell

2005-02-01 by Aaron Eppolito

I've said this a few times before, but the new guys haven't heard it
yet, apparently, so:

Get your head around TRACKS versus CHANNELS.

They ARE NOT the same thing.

The sequencer has 16 TRACKS. The synthesiser has 32 CHANNELS. The
MIDI outputs can address 32 CHANNELS.

You record into a TRACK. TRACKS play CHANNEL(s).

TRACKS can go to a single CHANNEL or a bank of 16 CHANNELS, either
internally, externally, or both.

You can think of tracks like a track on a tape deck or ADAT or 2" or
whatever. You could record a single instrument on that tape track, OR,
you could mic your whole band into that one track. The XL-7 sequencer
is the same. You can record one CHANNEL per TRACK, or, record a whole
bank (16) or CHANNELS in any given TRACK. To do the first, set the
TRACK to CHANNEL ASSIGN: channel:01A (or whatever single channel). To
do the later, set it to Channel:MultiA (or B). If it's internal sounds
you want playing for that track, pick internal. If you want external
tracks, select external.

PS. if you really are "turning off" the internal synth (presumably
with the MIDI ENABLE feature), you're REALLY going about it the wrong
way. The pattern channel assign page is your friend...
