RE: [xl7] Re: Setup for Sequencing Hell

Also realize that tracks A1-A16 are designated for the internal sequencer,
and B1-B16 are designated for external gear.

Cheers,

Andre

I started a reply this AM, but didn't have time to complete and test
it. It should get you started on the right track (pardon the pun).
I know this has been addressed before in the archives, but I cannot
recall what keyword to use to search the archives.

Perhaps others can fill in the details.

======================================================
SUMMARY:

Two key E-Mu features to understand and master:
(1) Rechannelize
(2) CHANNEL ASSIGN (channel and destination)

Also, midi routing is important. How are your midi ins and outs
connected between the halo and the XL-7?

======================================================
ROUTING ISSUE:

I used the following setup:

Keyboard (controller only)
to
E-Mu sequencer
to
external gear--sound mudule(s)

It sounds like you are doing something similar only the Halo is both
your keyboard and sound module. Although I haven't done this, try
the following:

Set Halo to Local Control off.
Send midi out of Halo to XL-7 midi in
Send midi out of XL-7 to Halo midi in

Make sure Halo is not merging midi in and sending it back out
(dreaded midi feefback loop--ugggh!)

If I have this right, the Halo keys should not be playing the Halo
synth engine, but the keystrokes should be going to the XL-7.

======================================================
RECHANNELIZE:

Turn RECHANNELIZE INPUT To Track Dest: to always (MIDI menu system).

On XL-7 select pattern view.

On the XL-7, select Track 1 [T01] in the upper left corner of the
display. Play the keys. Assuming Halo is in Mutitimbral mode, the
keys should play the Halo synth engine on channel 1 via the XL-7's
rechannelize function.

======================================================
RECORD DESTINATION (CHANNEL ASSIGN):

[more needed here]

======================================================

Hope this gets you started.
