Hello all you crazy people,

Just wanted to ask opinions of the Doepfer A-155 sequencer for those who own
more than just MOTM in their system. Is it a good simple sequencer? I have
the need for a simple 8-step jobber and of all three European manufacturers,
the Doepfer looks like the winner for me. I had considered the Analogue
Solutions 8-step CV, and Gate sequencers but they lack the features of the
A-155. Are there any downfalls I have to look out for other than buying
brand D? Please advise

PS DO NOT BUY the Doepfer spring reverb. This thing came with the spring
tank mounted on the PCB and after horrible customer complaints, Doepfer made
a mod where you remove the tank from the PCB and attatch RCA cables to it so
you can move it around in your rack or even outside the rack to be mounted
for the least amount of RFI. Well, it doesn't work and the thing is a piece
of crap! I have a full on ground hum in my reverb out and I can't get it to
go away for anything. I love the flexibility of my other Doepfer things, but
this was a huge let down!!!

i was in the market for this module and was warned off of it by
martin at technopolis for precisely this RFI problem. cheers to
martin, yet another reason i need to move to canada.

damned enport....grumble grumble...

thomas,
i have found mine to be very flexible and useful. one thing about sequencers,
though, if one is good, two are better. bear that caveat in mind. one thought
on that, it may be that the simpler and less expensive analog solutions
sequencers would be good second units in a system. this is something i`m
pondering at the moment. still, an a-155 is a good tool in a modular system,
proceed with confidence.
best,

Bummer! I assume the bottom of the tank is open and the tank is grounded --
you might try covering this open space with a sheet of metal to see if that
reduces some of the noise.

Actually, if I'd remembered, I would've mentioned a silkscreen panel for a
diy spring reverb (after someone posted a list of Moog modules and I noticed
that they had one). I do like spring reverbs, but the hum thing is a drag.
Maybe they are not the best candidate for a diy module.

No hum from my ancient PAiA Hot Springs -- but those look quite expensive
last time I looked!

I did this with my spring reverb. The noise level is very low.

Actually the price is not bad. I like my hot springs (as far as one can
like a spring reverb). I have found the noise level very low on this for a
spring reverb (at least the way I have mine built). I am not in love with
spring reverb sounds in general. But, they are nice for some things, and I
don't feel bad owning one when I don't have hundreds tied up in it.

When I was doing a recording using my Doepfer, I stacked a high quality
Master Room spring reverb ontop of my Doepfer, but I was getting so much hum
that I had to put it on the floor. If a totally separate and enclosed spring
reverb outside of the Doepfer picks up so much hum, I can see how any spring
reverb within the case will be way too noisy for use.
