I did this with my spring reverb.  The noise level is very low.

No hum from my ancient PAiA Hot Springs -- but those look
quite expensive last time I looked!

Actually the price is not bad.  I like my hot springs (as far as one can
like a spring reverb).  I have found the noise level very low on this for a
spring reverb (at least the way I have mine built).  I am not in love with
spring reverb sounds in general.  But, they are nice for some things, and I
don't feel bad owning one when I don't have hundreds tied up in it.
