Just wondering if anyone out there is using a midi pickup to control their synth. Im thinking a little ahead of myself, I haven't recieved my modules yet, but I've already got that, what if? what if? bug. Thanks.

Yes, I do this once in a while. I use a Pro Soloist so I only have one note to play, but this is good for leads and basses. The other thing I do (a lot) is to connect the guitar through the various modules. I have an Oakley EFG Deluxe and from there I can get a gate and also send audio to one of the many tasy MOTM filters. FUnky! The 510 makes an excellent hard distortion device, btw. This is exactly what I'm looking for!! I've been thinking about feeding my guitar into the MOTM filter, but it would be a lot more fun to trigger the EG with the guitar and thus modulate the cutoff etc. Is there an alternative to the below-mentioned Oakley EFG? It would certainly be fun to build the EFG myself - I guess I can order the PCB from oakley, but I still would need the front panel - and looking at both Schaeffer and FrontPanelExpress web pages left me pretty depressed... as a Mac user I'm out of luck. They just don't like us, right? ;-) Seriously, Is there any way for a Mac user to order an EFG front panel? All suggestions would be very welcome!! I think I saw this question asked on AH a couple of days ago. One guy answered he was using Virtual PC on his mac to run the panel designer app from Schaeffer. I guess that also means he could order the panel with that setup. Btw, I also have the EFG deluxe, and it's indeed great fun. I once ran a previously recorded guitar part through the '420, triggered by the EFG. Very, very nice. - Robert

Paul has an envelope follower planned! No that he has off-loaded the kitting and purchasing of parts, I guess we will see it next year. I can't wait! Cheers! I run Connectix Virtual PC on my Powerbook G4 using XP with no problem. I have designed FPD files with it and yes, even the built in ordering works. Charles.

I use a Roland GM 70 Gr to Midi converter with a GK 1 pickup. Also use a Gr 700 but the midi output is slow. I also used an Ibanez MC 1 (which is for sale). For controllers I use a couple of rare GK 1 pickups and an Ibanez XM Gr style guitar. I have used a host of Midi to CV converters and they work fine for driving MOTM modules as long as they are set correctly. The real challenge is direct signal processing. I used to just use a compressor to increase gain on the input sde but when I started using something other than Moog modules I realised that I should be more careful. I also would hate to ruin my Motm and other modules being stupid. MOTM modules are the best direct input modules for processing I hve run across, some of them act just like dedicated rack gear. The 700 is a brilliant exmple. Gino Wong

John Blacet sells his Input module that would do the trick. 1/8" jacks, though, which can be tricky with guitar even if you have a nice STooge 1/4 to 1/8 cable. The torque from walking around and stuff could mangle the not-so-robust jacks. An alternative is to build that into a Stooge Panel or a Schaeffer panel. Also, Tony does sell completed units and pre-populated boards. Mike --- In motm@yahoogroups.com, Dino Leone <d_p_leone@y...> wrote:

Thanks so much for all the suggestions! I decided to build an EFG myself; a colleague here in the lab (a very pretty girl) kindly allowed me to use her PC to order the panel. In the long run, I'll probably have to go the VirtualPC path as Charles indicated - although it seems like using nuclear weapons against a swarm of wasps.... Many thanks once again for all the help!
