Where do I sign up.

Anything "off the shelf" that you could hack into a frankenstein?

I'm just starting my MSP<-->MOTM fiddling and sometimes just have to
sit back when the possibilities start to make my teeth shake.

MOTM firewire?

2003-07-14 by Tobias Enhus

Here's a fantasy....
What if one were to construct a firewire / CV interface that has rewire
drivers.
That would open up great possibilities for serious analog/digital hybrid
synthesis. Max/MSP users would be in heaven! (complex FM, AM, dynamic
waveshaping, etc.!)
At the same time it would be a great help for all logic cubase users,
because now you get both audio and MIDI as an insert on your software
mixer!
I don't know how feasible this project would be, it's just a rough
thought. Although a similar "merge" already exist with MAX/MSP and the
Kyma hardware, allowing MAX to send and receive floating point streams
from the capybara. A beta version of ASIO drivers is already in
circulation, showing awesome potential of integration between systems!

How does this sound?

Well, I'm investigating the "Frankenstein" option. I'll let you know if
I make any discoveries.

Re: MOTM firewire?

Is there a significant technical challenge in making an A/D - D/A
interface that's
accurate down into the DC range, in addition to sounding good for
audio?

The market for this is tiny, isn't it?

I know there are a lot of products for industrial data collection,
but they certainly
don't have ASIO drivers, and probably do not pass much in the way of
hi-fi.

Good idea, though. I did a record a while back with a frankenthing
that was a PC
running Reaktor all wired up with an ARP 2600 and a few other gizmos.
8 channels of
audio back and forth and 24 CV out. CV back into the PC was the weak
link.

The sounds were great, but it sure was a lot of work to keep track of
patches that
were half analog, half code.

General pole:

How much would a 8 channel CV firewire i/o box be worth to you?
$100? $1000?

We all know midi stinks, but what sampling rate is "good enough" for CV?
16? 22? 192?

How much would a line level to CV converter be worth? ADAT to CV bridge?

I'd say use the MPC 22.05Khz at 16-bits WAV format as the 'native file. 16-bit ADC and DAC are
about $65/set for 1/2 LSB, plus you need a 5ppm voltage reference (about $7) and 0.1% 10ppm
resistors in the CV path (45 cents ea) AND lastly good DC op amps (about $5.50 for a dual).
