Here's a fantasy....
What if one were to construct a firewire / CV interface that has rewire 
drivers.
That would open up great possibilities for serious analog/digital hybrid 
synthesis. Max/MSP users would be in heaven! (complex FM, AM, dynamic 
waveshaping, etc.!)
At the same time it would be a great help for all logic cubase users, 
because now you get both audio and MIDI as an insert on your software 
mixer!
I don't know how feasible this project would be, it's just a rough 
thought. Although a similar "merge" already exist with MAX/MSP and the 
Kyma hardware, allowing MAX to send and receive floating point streams 
from the capybara.  A beta version of ASIO drivers is already in 
circulation, showing awesome potential of integration between systems!
