SKB cases

2001-08-29 by John Blacet

I asked SKB about making taller cases in the shorter depths....I wonder
if I could saw one of the deep ones down the middle?

Hi John;
At this time we are not making any larger units for the Shallow X
Racks,
however you are welcome to check back with us at a later date. Also we
do
not make custom cases:

I'm pro taller X case as well. They look like they'd be a great
solution if they only came taller than 4U.

This bring up an interesting question... and appologies if this was covered
in recent discussions. Who makes custom cases? Not the amazing kind that
listmembers are hand making, but companies like SKB (but not SKB,
obviously). I wouldn't mind picking up a 20U or 30U tall case, about 10"
deep. Can you guess what for? :)

Here is just another person's suggestion:

It's called
C&D Cases. Phone is (973) 759-4175 and it's in Belleville, NJ.

or

I don't own MOTM but C&D has made cases for me for a long time and do great
work. to your size specifications. They also have a choice of two different
thicknesses. Nice people, too.

I've had custom cases made by Anvil and USA Case. Calzone also makes
custom cases. Afaik, so do Mid Atlantic and Cadence. Also, many SR and
touring companies make their own cases, and might take on outside work if
their shops aren't busy. Almost any company that sells pro gear can get
cases made for you, and might have a good idea based on previous orders who
can make the case you want at the best price.

I recently purchased a SKB look alike case that is made by another company
for around 1/2 the price. It is the traditional depth. But perhaps this
company would be interested in a custom size? I don't find a full brand
name, but I could check with the supplier.

There are LOADS of custom case companies that will make whatever you want.
Having been in the touring business for years, I have had a lot of experience
with most of the major brands. Without a doubt the best case company that I
know of is R&R Cases out of Des Plaines, IL. Here's the info:

http://www.rrcases.com/

Not the cheapest, but definitely the best. There are some close runner-ups,
but check out any world-class tour backstage and chances are you will find
some R&R Cases. No, I don't have anything to do with the company, but I do
own some of their cases.

Here's another place to try for road type cases, Star Case:

http://www.starcase.com/index.htm

They make semicustom cases. They have an interesting configuration that is
a double wide set, side by side rack rails, perfect for a modular based upon
rack rails. Look for the F-1D and F4-D. Minimum depth was about 10" which
isn't too bad.
