Transform Multiplication Not Working

Transform Multiplication Not Working

2014-08-07 by bry_204@...

Hi guys, I'm trying to get the transform multiplication feature to work on my Emax SE rack. When I try to use it, I get the following error: "Different Software Rev!"

I've tried using the following OSes:

Emax SE rev 1.1 - boots feature doesn't work

Emax SE rev 4. 0 - the modded version, boots feature doesn't work

Emax 3.2 - it wouldn't even boot with this one.

Emax SE HD OS 1.1 - caused problems when trying to look for the HD, figured it wouldn't work.

Is there an OS version I'm missing to try? Mine does have the SE sticker on it, and other features like changing the pitch, sample rate and spectrum synth (although I haven't used it yet, it does allow me to access the feature.)

I have to use OmniFlop to format my disks, then reboot into dos to use EMX to write the OS / banks. Tried other methods, none will work other than this procedure.

you dont need omniflop to format your disks only the omniflop drivers as emxp uses the omniflop drivers to format and write and read floppy disks

the transformation you need 2 samples

the os disk you require is the se 1.1 this is the version that upgrades the emax to se compatibility

look in the se addendum manual it gives you all the information on how to use the se features but be ready for a very long wait as it can take upto an hour to compute

it can take minutes in the e4ultra

Well when I try to use EMXP strictly to format a disk and put the OS on, the Emax gives me an error on boot saying "Timeout Error!"

I've tried using disks with tons of samples on them, but I still can't access the transform multiplication feature.

Where is the addendum manual?

Sounds like your floppy drive has an issue reading a portion of your disks- bad head alignment perhaps.

Could it be because they are HD disks with just tape covering the hole? Find it weird though that everything else works but this one feature.

Transform Multiplication ??

ok, this was a great thing E-mu added, but ridiculously time consuming
for mixed results.
Has no one made an app or plug in to do the same? Perhaps just certain
settings in SoundHack will?
Should be simple enough? yes?
pointless to wait for hours on the Emax for this. Anything close? sadly
most apps are real-time now, which limits things substantially.

The magnetic strength of HD disks is different.
It can cause problems, especially where you are using the original stock floppy….

this more sounds like you either have a corrupt OS image, or a problem with the floppy drive being able to write that particular section of the disk (head issues).

You can do it in software, if you have the right program(s).

Then just download back into the Emax via serial or using EMXP...

Keeping in mind the software may not EXACTLY match the effect the Emax would have.

emulatorx2 and x3 have it its as slow as the e4ultra range can take minutes and then you have to reloop the sample as it does not give you the original loops

but i used to create a single cycle wave then copy past 128 times then use the transform from a another sample so that it added its frequency spectrum to the single cycle samples i got good results with string machine samples

but on the emax1/2 it takes for ever

the only other program that i know who can do the same thing is the kyma system walle voice was created this way by imposing a vocal to a synthesis sound

but you can do the same with vocoding

i agree with ted

i recently had the same problem with a emax2 the customer sent a hd disk with os on

but i did not realise and kept just getting errors

i used a dsdd disk and it worked correctly

the on board floppy controller uses a dsdd signal this is a weaker signal than for the hd types as they both use different magnetic tape

the metal oxide type tape in hd disks needs a bigger magnetic field to write to the disk

and why there is the extra hole in the floppy disk a pin contact falls into that hole telling the onboard controller that it is a hd disk and requires the stronger field

the problem is the floppy controllers on the emax are only dsdd types so dont even know about the hd function does not have the signal connected to its controller

so when you cover the hole your making the hd look like a dsdd and it will work but with mixed results from crc errors to botched os where bits are wrong and it crashes the machine to loosing data over time in a short period invest in some proper dsdd they are about £1 each and you can still get new ones

Found a DSDD tried again, still the same problems. EMXP won't boot either, and formating in EMX in dos doesn't work. Always required to first format in OmniFlop then boot into dos to write the OS and a bank.

Luckily I've only been using the Emax for drums, would be a real pain in the ass getting banks loaded on each floopy disk.

Would like to get SCSI or a floopy disk emulator in the future.

what os are you using

what are you formatting it to in omniflop

also you cant format it in omniflop it usually has to be formated first in a emax before omniflop will tell you what it is

have yo corre4ctly installed the omniflop drives

cant help there i use winxp which it works perfectly fine in can you make a dual partition so you have xp as well

also what rev version of emxp are you using as i was having problems with the latest beta refusing dsdd disk

but i like the latest version for converting banks as its fully automated

but i prefer to use the pre version for formatting emax floppy disks

best thing t odo is down load the omniflop image disk of the se rev 1.1 upgrade disk as this works great in omniflop and works great in the emax as its the correct original disk it should load properly

I'll have to check it out later. Honestly not sure how much more time I can put into trying to get this to work. From the sounds of it, it's a hit and miss for generating usable sounds which takes 30-60 mins to process.

Have you created usable drum sounds? I'm more curious as to what say a hi hat generated with a kick turns out to sound like.

Re: [emax] Re: Transform Multiplication Not Working

for that its easier to layer them

I had wondered if when a person installs SE if the install writes the data back to a compatible os disk in certain tracks the emax is able to load from. If so you would have to start with a comatible os then reinstall SE and the waveforms

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
