BCF in MCU emulation, is it normal for faders to reset?

Hi, when using the BCF-2000 in MCU emulation mode is it normal for the faders to automatically move themselves to the bottom? If I move a fader to any spot it resets itself to the bottom. I was just wondering if that is normal. I am trying to get this to work with Tracktion and Soundbooth and I am trying to see if it is working correctly or do I need to return it. I have not had any luck getting this to control anything at all yet. I have it connected via MIDI and USB.

I've just tested this on my own BCF: whenever I switch it on in "MC C" mode (at least I hope that's what you refer to by "MCU"), they indeed move to the bottom. > If I move a fader to any spot it resets itself to the bottom. At least, mine does that too! > I am trying to get this to work with Tracktion and Soundbooth and I am > trying to see if it is working correctly or do I need to return it. > I have not had any luck getting this to control anything at all yet. > I have it connected via MIDI and USB. Apparently, in "MC C" mode (maybe in the other emulation modes as well - I haven't tried) the BCF relies on the computer software to make settings that allow you to move the faders (without them snapping back, that is!). I've managed to get "MC C" mode working with Sonar 7. I first told Sonar that a Mackie Control was connected to the BCF's USB MIDI I/O ports, but even then the faders still kept moving to the bottom! Then I opened a project, upon which some of the faders suddenly moved up and I could start moving them at will. So in any case you don't have to return your BCF! Good luck! Mark.

Now I know that it is normal. Now to figure out why software does not seem to see the BCF. Tracktion has full support for MCU but does not see this at all and I used the updated MIDI driver etc... is there something I am missing? Is there software I need to run with it? One fast Q while I am here, when running in MCU mode (yes "MC C") can you still program anything not emulated? Or do you only get the very basic controls this way? As I said I am new to this unit. :)

You can only set some of the Global Setup variables, but you can't assign anything in terms of presets/encoders/buttons/faders. For more information see e.g. "BC MIDI Implementation.pdf" vs. 1.0, p. 131. Mark.
