Good question.
The desktop case I used has a usable control panel area of about 17"
x 6" (430mm x 150mm).
The rack panel I got from Schaeffer is 4U, so that gives slightly
more.
The pot panels are mounted perpendicular to the panel, and are just
over 1" (25mm) deep. Allowing another 1/2" (13mm) for the mainboard
to sit behind the pot boards, means the case needs at least 1.5"
(38mm)depth.
Are you thinking of doing a rack case, or desktop ?

It may be possible to make the case slightly narrower, as the pro
boards are slightly smaller than the home-made boards.
But I need to add the function selector buttons & LEDs somewhere,
which is likely to be just to the left of the keypad - using up the
spare width freed up by the smaller boards.

Colin,

Can you tell us the dimensions of your case?
I'm looking at buying one from HammondMFG.com and would like to know how
big (or small) a case to buy.

Those are nice looking boxes.

That could fit if you put the keypad above the step-switches and
pots, rather than at the side. But it might be a squeeze getting the
LCD above the keypad, and it sort of needs to be there so that the
soft-function keys line up with the LCD. Unless you want to run wires
from the keypad board to the switches, then you could place them
where ever you like.

Colin,

I'm full of those ;-)

kewl..

good..

desktop, I've gone for one of the nice hammond cases, like this ;-

no problem, the case I have is 356mm wide 216mm deep (panel area, not case
depth). its 38mm high at the front and 76mm high at the back, so I should
be ok..
I may have to mount some things a little closer , but I'm sure I will
survive.

Thanks
Paul

P.s. let me know when you want some money (oh, and how much)

Colin,

yeah, couldn't resist them :-)

This is what I had planned.

This is something else I was actually thinking of doing.
IIRC correctly its only really the three 'soft' keys that need to be
directly underneath.
Which brings me to another question.
From what you say, the keypad 12 switchs on a PCB. Is this correct?
This means I could (in theory) use different switchs, if I ran wires from
the keypad PCB or even did my own, yes?

Paul
(full of daft questions)

It's only 9 keys, but yes, you could use different switches.
The matrix supports 32 keys in total (the 2 function select keys will
occupy 2 of the 7 spare positions)
