Good question.
The desktop case I used has a usable control panel area of about 17"
x 6" (430mm x 150mm).
The rack panel I got from Schaeffer is 4U, so that gives slightly
more.
The pot panels are mounted perpendicular to the panel, and are just
over 1" (25mm) deep. Allowing another 1/2" (13mm) for the mainboard
to sit behind the pot boards, means the case needs at least 1.5"
(38mm)depth.
Are you thinking of doing a rack case, or desktop ?

It may be possible to make the case slightly narrower, as the pro
boards are slightly smaller than the home-made boards.
But I need to add the function selector buttons & LEDs somewhere,
which is likely to be just to the left of the keypad - using up the
spare width freed up by the smaller boards.
