Why are some people so impatient?

Why are some people so impatient?

2012-05-25 by Richard

Hi group, just wanted to publicly remind a few people about
what an "interest group" is all about. I've had to respond to someone
with the email below. No names mentioned but I think it's worth
all people with questions to ask to have a read of. I don't want to start a flame war or anything but just asking some people to be a bit reasonable.

Cheers

No it's not too many questions more to do with I am not on my PC checking emails or yahoo groups every ten minutes of every day. Apart from my hobbies I am also a husband, a father and a student at University (Mature age)thus must spread my time accordingly. I am sorry if you are impatient for replies but I have other priorities which are more important.

As a father of 2 teenagers I deal with "poked with a stick" requests from them all day long. Poking, badgering etc will never get them what they want any quicker, generally it's the opposite. Now if you are a little more patient and not so much "in some ones face" for answers I will try, time permitting to help you out. From some of the answers you have given for my instructions, you appear to have every little experience in electronic repair or fault finding. I would first say if you doubt your abilities at all, get an experienced person to do the work required.

1) it will get the repair done far quicker
2) it will save the device from further damage

Some of the things you have asked me about have taken years to get experience in and can't simply be passed on in a few lines of an email. There are plenty of websites, book etc that deal with
electronics, micro-controllers etc so you should use them to help yourself get some knowledge before diving into an area you no nothing of. If a person can't be bothered doing their own research why should another person be expected to do it for them?

Remember the active members of a group give their time freely to help others with like interests. Some of the knowledge they have has been achieved by having to "nut" through or pay others to fix. Hitting them with a stick is unlikely to make them feel like passing it on to some one else.

So be reasonable with your requests, be patient and wait for a response and eventually you will get to where you want to be. Alternatively you can continue demanding a quick response and
get less and less people wanting to assist.

I am looking at your recent request for help and will get back to you with an answer as soon as I can. If that is not acceptable, I am sorry, my free time is not as great as I would like to have.

Very good summary Richard and thanks for the friendly way of bringing up
this topic. Being the moderator and one of the "semi-skilled" of the
group I always appreciate the knowledge of the real tech gurus.

On a side note, I try to kick out all passing the line between annoying
and mean. I have received quite a collection of offlist mails regarding
this, but that (and the moderator work) is my way of "paying" for my
place in the group. :)

But, to be clear to all, keep the Q's coming and keep posting
interesting things that's on topic (or as close as it gets). I'll try to
keep this a friendly place in the future too.

Hexagonal greetings from sunny Sweden,

Jesper,

I found this a little bit rude, he is talking about me and I will explain why...
My first question to Richard was about some SDS6 problem and if he can share the midi conversion with me, his answer was very helpful but saddly I am not technician and I will never be because I am simply "not interested" and without asking for it he sent me a schematic, Do I need to be able to read schematics to join this group or to ask questions?
This is Richard answer "There are plenty of websites, book etc that deal with electronics, micro-controllers etc so you should use them to help yourself get some knowledge before diving into an area you no nothing of. If a person can't be bothered doing their own research why should another person be expected to do it for them?"
I am not interested in electronics, I just wanted to know if "maybe" the sds6 problem was a little fix that I can do myself.
After 3 emails he replied very fast I got no emails back anymore from Richard, then I really was worried about "maybe I said something that upset him" that was my first thought and I email him a couple of more times...
I have not too much free time, a waiter at work found this group and comment about it to me (I have 3 Indian restaurants and saddly I speak 99% of my days in another language, sorry about my broken english), I just wanted information because is what people is looking for in this groups right?, I am not here to make friends or talk about our personal life.
I just wanted 2 things: 1) how to burn a eprom and the sds6 midi conversion...that's all
I think to Richard If a person have no "some skills" , that person don't deserve to ask or something like that.
I exchanged 5 or 6 emails with him and in any of them there is a straight answer to my simple questions and that obviously leads to another email asking the same unanswered question!
Another very kind user sent me all the info I needed in 10 lines and I am very happy about it because is not big deal, is simple...
If someday I can help another member i will do it :)

Thank you Jesper

Clive

Re: [Simmons Drums] Why are some people so impatient?

Hi list,

it's not just you, so don't take it personally in that sense. From time
to time here are people wanting info without sharing experiences etc.
Sometimes it ends with rudeness and flaming and a few times I've kicked
members from the list...

Regarding the SDS-6 I think you should _never_ touch anything inside
anything without knowing what you're doing. So no, it's not an easy fix
in that sense of the word. Some mods on old gear are easy (editing
triggering levels as an example) and some are hard (editing digital code
etc).

Good news if the fix is simple. I have no SDS-6 but would imagine many
more would be converted to midi if it was that easy.

I let the money quote pass 'cause I wasn't sure what you guys meant.

Anyway, glad to hear you got your answer. Don't fry the SDS-6 while
operating on it.
