SDSV new user

2010-02-25 by d.conley@rocketmail.com

Hi all, first post for me :)
Just received my dream drum system... an SDSV.
I've had the pads from an SDS8 for some time now and I've been using a Roland brain until I eventually got myself the V.
Hello all other Hex heads!

A few Q's....

1) It has a snare and 5 tom modules, no bass. Does anybody know where I could get one from? Anybody on here with a spare?

2) It's missing it's cover too. Same as above, any ideas? Do plans exist to get one remade?

3) I've tried using an "XLR to jack" lead (standard mic lead) to trigger from the SDS8 pads but I'm getting no response. I can however trigger if I simply use a "jack to jack" lead in the synth input socket.
Is it just as good to use this input from the pads? Is a standard XLR lead ok?

4) Apparently it had a wiring loom attached at some point. I notice the pad sockets are wired to each other in series on the inside of the socket. Could this be the cause of 3)?

Sorry for all the Q's guys! I'm eager to learn and get using it!
Cheers
Dave

Sounds almost like my Simmons start. V + 8-pads. From now on you're
stuck! :D

Bass and similar sometimes surface on Ebay. It's worse with hihat and
cymbal.

It's been racked you mean? Talk to a local metalworker.

Simmons were british. Enough said? Why make something standard when you
can wire it differently. So, the xlr's are probably OK. I always have to
double check before saying anything, but it's non-standard so surf the
web for a description. I _think_ Dave and friends partly did this to
avoid mixing the cables and wrecking outputs with inputs etc. But it
might be that they're just pritish. :D

It might, but my guess is still the above.

Welcome to this crazy gang - it sounds as if you're going to fit right in.

One more thing. My SDS-V came with a extra jack in one of the front
blinds. It was just soldered in parallell with the rest. I sold the
panel off with another brain when I managed to fill my SDS-V. Often when
mod's are made, they seldom wreck original wiring, unless needed...

(Now I know WT is going to start writing about my hesitation when it
comes to drilling in old gear...) :D

Hi Jesper

Thanks for the reply. Does this mean you had custom jack-XLR cables made to trigger your V from the SDS8 pads?

I want to try and get a new cover made, does the original one wrap right around the unit in one piece? And it simply slides inside?

Cheers
Dave

I soldered myself, as I often do. Cheaper and easier in many ways. When
it comes to trigging oudon't need any fancy wire either.

Top and sides are one piece, bottom is one. Like this:

____________________ top
I I
I I
I I

____________________ bottom

The right hand side have a carry handle attached to. I can give you the
dimensions if you give me time to dig my parts out. My SDS-V is racked
now and the cover stored away.

Wolfgang has a spare cover for me so no worries about sending dimensions Jasper. Thanks anyway.

For trigger XLR wiring, is it pin 2 = hot and the rest are ground?

Cheers
Dave
