Yeah lucky you! I won that auction. I don't regret paying what I did for it though. The synth just sounds amazing. It looks excellent as well. I do need to open it up and make sure the battery is OK. Is it hard to modify it to use a lithium battery?

Just got mine. The chassis is really beat up, but everything works.
All the presets were empty, but I can save new ones, which means the
NiCad battery is probably still working fine and was just left empty
for a while (Don't worry, I'll replace it)

I found an MP3 of the default presets "tape backup" so I'll be able to
load the sounds in the synth easily.

It worked for me after two trials, I just had to rise the gain higher on
my computer.

As for the synth, I've cleaned the whole thing and I was able to remove
all the larger dents and make them almost invisible with a clamp and MDF
panel. The phones jack was broken, which was easily fixed with a
panel-mount jack. I'll get replacement keys from Kawai to have a
fully-working keyboard. The only things that are then going to be
missing to have the synth in good condition are the slider and encoder
knobs. Oh, and the NiCd battery didn't leak in my synth. I've removed it
and installed a diode in the battery circuit, so it'ready for a 3.6V
LiSoCl2 battery.

Didnt work for me either same synth as Travis and now I got to many
good patchs to want to try.I thought it was the output myself.Maybe
the reverse would work?Storing my patches in wav or mp3 format as
you would do in tape.It should work in theory but a little risky to
loose the patches if the recording levels and outputs are not
correct.

The patch files should definitely be saved as .wav files. It won't be *that* large a file size. Plus with the way mp3 works....I doubt you'd want some psychoacoustic program tossing away data as it sees fit. Use wavs or some other full bandwidth file type (FLAC, AIFF, etc).

OK, so I loaded the preset MP3 on my SX-240 and saved it back in a
48kHz wave (1 minute, 5MB size) that I uploaded in the Files section.
FLAC and WavPack only saved about 500kB.

The only reason I could see why the MP3 doesn't work for you is that
it's signal level is -20dB, and, pretty unlikely, the sample rate is
44.1kHz, and the sound card resampling to 48kHz could cause problems.

I think that the very low signal level is the only problem with the
MP3 found online. The CMOS RAM chip in the SX-240 is 4k or 8k, and it
takes one full minute to save that, so the transfer rate is very slow,
and I believe a 22.05kHz sampling rate would work. This signal is
supposed to be saved and retrieved from a cheap ferric oxide cassette
on a noisy distorting RatShack portable cassette recorder without
damage, so I doubt MP3 compression will cause any problems, especially
since it works for me.

As for losing patches, there's a "verify" function that checks if the
patches were saved correctly by comparing the saved data to the CMOS.
No risks, especially if the recording is digital.

I've also uploaded an MP3 version that weights only 800kB and works
fine on my 240. This one has -0.1dB levels, and is simply a converted
version of the WAV I saved from my synth.

Tell me if the MP3 works or not, I'll remove the WAV file if it does.
