| Synthosphere's SX-240 - Fixing her'up ! | 01 First Checkup, PS-36 Fuses inspection |
There are 3 fuses on the PS-36 Board. All are 1.5A, 250V. Third one is out of the pic range, just above. Ends up 2 of them were blown, the 2 vertical ones. |
| Synthosphere's SX-240 - Fixing her'up ! | 02 First Checkup, PS-36 Fuse blown |
A clear manifestation that something went wrong somewhere last time this SX was used. Hopefully it was just a power surge leading to no other damage, and not some major issue. If not, then a blown transformer or power transistor?? |
| Synthosphere's SX-240 - Fixing her'up ! | 03 Blown IC - General Location |
This is the general area, to help you locate where my problem is. |
| Synthosphere's SX-240 - Fixing her'up ! | 04 Blown IC - A bit closer... |
Closer... You can ID the ST-17 Board, where the Blown IC is. See following pics for details. |
| Synthosphere's SX-240 - Fixing her'up ! | 05 Blown IC - Closeup - OUCH!! |
OK, now you can see it clearly. Poor thing almost got decapitated!!! It escaped my attention at first, as I was mainly cleaning the horizontal boards, and the ST-17 is right under the cover, so less dust accumulation, and is vertical when cover is opened. But I finally spotted it, to my horror! |
| Synthosphere's SX-240 - Fixing her'up ! | 06 Blown IC - Really close |
I have identified this IC, with the help of the (very bad quality) PDF version of the Service Manual, as IC-25, an LM311P or TL311, not quite sure. Since the top has blown, I can't read what was written on it. CAN YOU HELP ME PLEASE? |
| Synthosphere's SX-240 - Upon Arrival | 01 Outside, Overall |
Not too bad... I think I had already done a quick surface clean at that point though |
| Synthosphere's SX-240 - Upon Arrival | 02 Outside, Left Cheek |
Kinda bashed... but it's ok, I want to put real nice wood anyways. |
| Synthosphere's SX-240 - Upon Arrival | 03 Outside, Right Cheek |
Bashed as well. But those are easy to change! |
| Synthosphere's SX-240 - Upon Arrival | 04 Outside, Top Left |
The big rotary button is not missing, it's just soaking in warm soapy water to clean it. Now it's like new! |
| Synthosphere's SX-240 - Upon Arrival | 05 Outside, Back Left |
Had already cleaned outside a bit, but maybe you can see how dirty it is inside... Will need a good inside cleanup and Deoxit! |
| Synthosphere's SX-240 - Upon Arrival | 06 Outside, Back Right |
Same here... |
| Synthosphere's SX-240 - Upon Arrival | 07 Outside, Dirty Keys |
Yikes! That dirt just won't go away when washed with warm mild soapy water or even Windex... looks like someone tried to clean them with acetone and dissolved the surface. Grrr... Will need to do a complete polish or change them all (got quite a few Poly-61's laing around... same keys!) |
| Synthosphere's SX-240 - Upon Arrival | 08 Outside, Inside, CPU Board |
Ouch! Very dirty. But yay! Battery seems to not have leaked! |
| Synthosphere's SX-240 - Upon Arrival | 09 Inside, Voice Board |
Icchhhh! Those SSM-2044 need to be treated with more respect dudes! They are the heart and soul of this beast... |
| Synthosphere's SX-240 - Upon Arrival | 10 Inside, Power Supply area |
Can't even see if the fuse is burst or not... (!) |
| Synthosphere's SX-240 - Upon Arrival | 11 Inside, Battery area |
No leaks! Yay!!! But extremely filthy! |
| Synthosphere's SX-240 - Upon Arrival | 12 Inside, Near SSM2044 & under keyboard |
Yikes, that can't be good for those lovely SSM's... Notice the big dustball between the SSM's of voices 1 and 2 ? |
| Synthosphere's SX-240 - Upon Arrival | 13 Inside, Under the keyboard |
A new type of semiconductors was just discovered: the furry type! (Jeeeze) |
