Re: [kawai-teisco] Looking for an SX-240

Hi Frank,

It took almost 6 months for a single one to show up on eBay. By the
way, for the others reading, I won the auction at $320 USD. (The
seller is still trying to figure out how to ship it to Canada
though...) It's going to cost me over $550 CAD with shipping and the
POOR exchange rate falling down every days probably though. (A month
earlier I would have saved $100...)

It's missing knobs, the condition is not awesome, has one note needing
to be fixed and the battery leaked, so it will obviously need repair.
A synth with a good battery, every switches working and no missing
knob would sell for much more than $400 I think.

Someone subscribing and posting here a few weeks before me got about 3
offers when he looked for one (Thanks to him, we_are_computron, for
posting the eBay item number last week), but I guess everyone jumped
on the offer as they were all sold, and not a single offer has showed
up online between July and last week.

Actively look on eBay, hoping one will show up, as Want-It-Now posts
simply do not work, you get spammed with people trying to sell you
iPods.

Hi Antoine,

Congrats on winning the SX! I had my eye on that one, but I was a
little short on cash. I've sold some gear, hence my offer to buy an
SX240 at a higher price. One in the condition I'm looking for may be
worth a little more, but I still think it's a fair price. Any takers
out there?

Frank

Congrats Antonie.make sure you service your new synth before you
play with it to much. You might have to clean up some gas damage and
100% for sure change the battery. You invested in a awsome synth i
strongly suggest you invest just a little bit more and have it moded
to take A A ion battery. It will cost you little and you will never
have to worry about damage to your synth from the battery ever again
or worry about loosing patches you make.

That sx240 was the only one I have seen on ebay as long as I been a
member here.When I first got here I was offered a few sx210's and I
stronlgy was leaning toward one.I almost gave up on a sx240 but i
lucked out.My sx240 is near mint cosmetic and working 100% problem
free.

I suggest anyne looking for a sx240 and cant fnd one to consider the
meaner sounding little brother the sx210.

Hi all

Please, do not exagerate... the SX240 is not THAT rare. I´ve been tracking it on eBay, and I´ve seen as much as half a dozen in the past year - mind you, ebay is not only ebay.com... I am talking about ebay.co.uk, ebay.au, ebay.ca, ebay... ... ...ALSO... I mean synth forums like VSE, etc...

Do NOT get me wrong. I am as much as a Kawai/Teisco lover as the next guy (here)... I have k5000w and r with mcb-1 and me-1, r-100 (have had another r-100 and 2 r-50s), 110f, sx-400 (now these ARE RARE... especially the SX!)... ... ...but honestly, the SX-240 is not rarer than say, an Akai AX-80, which, although being rare, is not the rarest thing on (synthesizer) earth, as it turns up every now and then on eBay.

So, do not go inflating the price tags on these.... you might ruin the chances of me getting one! :) lol....

Hi,

Just increased my price. Did some more research and thought this

price was about what a very good condition SX240 goes for. Anyone

interested?

Value is in the beholder.yea the s240 is not the rarest synth on earth or as rare as the sx400 that is rare. I would agree and say as rare as the ax80.and like the ax80 both are problematic.who knows how many they made?alot less then the old junos. A juno 106 for 500 is over priced.imho.5 or 6 is for a jupiter 6 but no old juno not a 6 not a 60 or a 106 or a alpha or a jx10. should be that much.A kawai sx240 with battery damage is worth 100-300 depending on cond imho.with a replaced battery and cleaned up any damage may have been done say 400 in very good cond. Now a mint sx240 with no battery damage and a moddified ion battery with even the old vintage back up tape and service manaul could get close to the 500 mark.the sx210 maybe just a little less without the midi even though many say the 210 sounds meaner.I didnt pay quite so high for mine 350 shipped moddified and one issue i got fixed.that cost me to ship it back and forth so i paid total close to 425.but then agian value is in the beholder.

Re: [kawai-teisco] VSE

2008-11-17 by S S

And just for the record VSE is great for its classifieds and info but on some prices in there synth database there way way off on some synths. Some write ups to are bias in my oppion as well
take the sx210 on vse says nothing but good and its good vs a juno and the s240 is written up like its ok but not as good as others.hummm.I know the 210 sounds a little diffrent but the 240 does the same and more.So it seems to me a little bias.

Hi all

Please, do not exagerate... the SX240 is not THAT rare. I´ve been tracking it on eBay, and I´ve seen as much as half a dozen in the past year - mind you, ebay is not only ebay.com... I am talking about ebay.co.uk, ebay.au, ebay..ca, ebay... ... ...ALSO... I mean synth forums like VSE, etc...

Do NOT get me wrong. I am as much as a Kawai/Teisco lover as the next guy (here)... I have k5000w and r with mcb-1 and me-1, r-100 (have had another r-100 and 2 r-50s), 110f, sx-400 (now these ARE RARE... especially the SX!).... ... ...but honestly, the SX-240 is not rarer than say, an Akai AX-80, which, although being rare, is not the rarest thing on (synthesizer) earth, as it turns up every now and then on eBay.

So, do not go inflating the price tags on these.... you might ruin the chances of me getting one! :) lol....

Re: VSE

2008-11-17 by gil_we

Not sure VSE editors know much about the SX anyway. After many years
not having them listed at all on the database, they finally got most
info about the SX-210 from a page I made for it a few years ago.

Telling that "The SX-240 is not as popular or cool as any of the
Roland synthesizers" is bull. The SX240 will bury any alpha Juno right
away.

too right gil_we
the sx synths are only one example on VSE.
when I started learning more details about the sx synths sources where hard to find.your page and the links from it to the tesico synths page (they have a good write up for the sx210 as well and not much info on the 240 )and this group are the best sources on the net.No wonder why VSE talks so great about the sx210.It would be kool it synth maina hade a sx210 page like they do for the 240.allthough my sx240 does not sounds like thoses patches mine are way better.heeheee.to realy compare the sx240 to a juno you can a 6 or a 60.in fact mine sometimes sounds like those synths. But not to a 106.the sx240 destorys what a 106 sounds like.the alphas as well. Some people calim the sx240 sounds like a jupiter 4 or 6 and they dont.I dont care how you program it.its very diffrent from those synths.

The SX240 will bury any alpha Juno right
away.

and the s240 is written up like its ok but not as good as
others.hummm. I know the 210 sounds a little diffrent but the 240 does
the same and more.So it seems to me a little bias.

Re: VSE

The 240 is a cool synth, having two oscillators it certainly do a
wider palette of sound than the Juno 60. But it's hard to beat the 60
sound anyway ;)

Re: [kawai-teisco] Re: VSE

2008-11-20 by Frank Aitken

I just got a good deal on a Juno 6 (waiting for it to arrive), so I'm holding off on the sx240 for a little while, or until I feel like I really need midi. What caught my attention with the sx240 was the string sounds (judging from samples I've heard). Reminded me a little of the Yamaha SK20.

good choice!good buy good synth.
the midi on the sx240 is not the greatest anyway. It does receive on
all channels.the strings are deep man on the sx synths.lsyererd in
dual or alip on the 240 is amazing.I guess its the sound that
impresses the the most along with the bleeps and blaps like Q-bert
from atari.in fact a sx240 would be well put next to a 2600.the noise
you can make on it sound almost like like game old atari game yars
revenge.zzzZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I'm holding off on the sx240 for a little while, or until I feel like
I really need midi. What caught my attention with the sx240 was the
string sounds (judging from samples I've heard). Reminded me a
little of the Yamaha SK20.

Actually an old synth is better at early 80s arcade game sounds/noises than atari 2600. I don t know what they used for sound in the 2600 but it was truly

Here's a bit of trivia for you.....did you know there was an arcade game in the mid 80s that had a real 6 ch 100% analog synth for sound? It was the Bally Sente SAC-1 system....which was like an early ancestor to the Neo Geo cart based system of the 90s. It used 6 CEM3394s under software control. I have several of the soundboards from that system...and, you can easily hack them to accept midi note on/off/pitch! I know all this because I was an arcade game repair technician years back.

I forgot to mention that this board with the CEM chips was made by......drumroll......Sequential Circuits! Says so right on it. I believe the Six Trak/Multi-Trak and Max are based on it.

You mentioned that to me before travis. That sounds wicked cool with
chips made by Sequential. The 2600 did sound like crap bit I beleive
its the nostaglic factor. That game got me hooked to strange sound
scapes.Have a listen

The neo geo?I remember when that hit the acrades.king of the monsters
and S.Showdown 1 and 2.kool stuff.
