a-190 velocity problem

a-190 velocity problem

2012-08-05 by skp_pete

hello, i've got a weird issue concerning the a-190 when used with the velocity out from CV2. i've had the module for over 2 years and its been fine up until now

i'm using the velocity to control the volume on my vca's .

i'm essentially getting spikes in volume on some notes, or some notes dont play

the midi notes with velocity are programmed in ableton

i've tried both my a-132-4 and my a-131 vca's and i get the same response. normally the patches consist of differing notes lengths and velocity of course but here's a very simple patch to explain :

velocity into CV of vca
osc into vca in
vca out to speakers
all midi notes set to velocity 100

basically sounds like the voltage coming from CV2 is not steady

its got me me miffed
thanks

Provided that all transmitted velocity values are indeed 100 the CV2 should
stay at a fixed voltage. If this does not apply something seems to be wrong.
Please contact our A-190-1 specialist Matthias Marass
(keyboards(at)doepfer(dot)de) to find out what's wrong.

Best wishes

thanks for that, i just sent him an email

Hello

one thing comes to my mind: What is the note length of the notes?

I could imagine that the interface can get difficulties with minimal
note lengthes.

I don't think that this could be a problem because the velocity value is an
integral part of the 3 byte note on message.

But another idea came to my mind: maybe note off messages with embedded
velocity values are sent. I don't know if the note off velocity values are
also used for the CV2 calculation. Christian Assall (software@doepfer.de)
knows details because he programmed the firmware of the A-190-1.

That is what I meant. To my knowledge Ableton does send noteOff with
noteOff-velocity.

thanks for the thoughts guys
i'll have a play with note off velocity
i've been in contact with Matthias and i have a few things to try for trouble shooting

well well
another nail in the coffin for access virus ti

Thanks for your help with this, and sorry to waste your time. The culprit is my access virus ti midi output.

i should just presume these days when i have strange events occur that the access is to blame!!

the a-190 works fine when i use my edirol midi interface, as apposed to the access ti

thanks for your help
