2200 won't recognize MIS UT7 inks . . .

2200 won't recognize MIS UT7 inks . . .

2007-11-30 by Nancy Wilson

I have been using MIS ebony ink in the B position for some time and now
the full set of UT7 inks. My 2200 stopped recognizing first the MIS
replacement for the magenta ink, so I switched the OEM magenta for a
few draft jobs. Now I am trying to print a good B&W and the printer
won't recognize the MIS Ebony (two different cartridges) nor any of 3
different OEM PK or K cartricges. I am unable to run a cleaning
cycle. Any HELP suggestions would be appreciated. Do I have to throw
out this printer? I am just totally frustrated!

Is this a clog? 2200 won't recognize MIS UT7 inks . . .

2007-11-30 by Nancy Wilson

As the light still shows red when I put in a new cartridge, I am
wondering if this is one of the famouse 2200 clogs. How do I get rid
of it if it can't run a cleaning cycle?

This does not sound like a clog. It may be that the printer has reached the
mandatory service point where it just shuts off. On the other hand, I think
the lights usually flash when that point is reached. The printer manual may
have a trouble shooting section that will tell you. If the OEM carts are
also not recognized, something serious could be wrong with the printer.

You've been running MIS rather than OEM, so if a clog it's a "famous
3rd-party clog", assuming it is a clog.

If not a clog, of your MIS carts may have lost a chip or otherwise
damaged the contacts (quality control issue). Look around inside the
cart slots for junk or damage.

If it was a waste pad issue, your computer would tell you that.

try cleaning the contact area on the printer with some alcohol and a q-tip.

Charles.

Epson 1800 and the 2200--Is this a good deal? (Was: 2200 won't recognize ink)

2007-12-13 by Nancy Wilson

I previously wrote about the 2200 not recognizing ink in the Black
position. Thanks to Charles Becker and Paul Roark for responding.

I purchased the 2200 not a year ago from the Epson Store as
refurbished unit. Luckily they agreed to replace it with a
refurbished printer. I finally got the refurbished printer
yesterday, only it is an 1800--not a 2200. I like the 2200 for its
ability to print B&W using MIS UT7 inks on matte paper. I've read
that the 1800 does a good job with glossy paper but not such a good
deal with matte paper using their matte black ink.

I have several OEM inks and MIS UT7 inks for the 2200. I have also
ordered a used 2200 from EBay; and as it has not used for about 3
months, I am hoping that when it arrives in a few days, it is a good
functioning printer.

Here are my questions:

1. Did I get a good deal? I am thinking that Epaon did not have any
more refurbished 2200's to resupply me.

2. As the 2400 is the upgrade for the 2200, should I ask them for
this upgrade instead--even offering to chip in some ? money in the
exchange?

3. Should I just keep the 1800 and reserve it for colored glossies
and use the 2200 with the MIS inks?

4. If you think #2 is a good answer, do you think I should go for
broke and try to get a deal on a 3800?

Well, it is the Christmas season, and I have many jobs ready to que
up and print; so any help you can give me on sorting this out would
be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Nancy

Yes, on # 2 and #4. IMHO.

Re: Epson 1800 and the 2200--Is this a good deal? (Was: 2200 won't recognize ink)

Nancy, if you are looking for neutral, archival b/w prints that don't use ANY color inks, the
1800 is your printer....that is, using Paul Roark's workflow.

http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/R1800.htm

check it out before you decide to relegate the 1800 to the back burner for color glossies
only. I am dying to try this approach but can't afford a new printer right now. I'm still using
my 2200, but only for certain images that take well to a single ink BO approach. Paul's
workflow uses three Eboni inks, and with the smaller droplets in the 1800, prints are
reported to be heavenly smooth. You can also still print color w/o changing inks, but only
on matte

best of luck,
Sarah
