Dtxtreme IIS update

Dtxtreme IIS update

2004-04-20 by oldguydrummer

From Yamaha:

The pads/modules are in the warehouse, but Yamaha is still waiting on
the racks to arrive, in the next day or so. When the racks come in,
the kits will be going out. The bulk of the Dtxtreme IIS will be
going to Guitar Centers. So if you purchase from someone else, you
still may have a wait.

(Don't shoot the messenger.)

Wow, that "possesses a foul odor"!!! Lets put a bunch of them on
shelves when there are a bunch of "paid" customers waiting!! I know
its big bucks & contracts and politics, etc.etc. and I'll eventually
get mine....(where's that crying smiley)
Sorry! just venting! My family's staying with neighbors and my cat
ran away...I'm just fine......

Yeah, it's a shame. But GC has long tentacles that can dispense a lot
of product. In this case, however, their refusal to show the DTXpress
IIISP, which is much more interesting than the standard version of
the kit, should make them liable to some kind of punishment.
Unfortunately, in the face of the Roland juggernaut, Yamaha may need
GC more than GC needs Yamaha, if only so far as e-drums are
concerned. The upside about complaints from people who already paid
for the kit on the web and have to wait is that maybe the situation
with Yamaha electronic drums will eventually change for the better.
Cold comfort, I realize. Early adopters always seem to get screwed in
one way or another, despite good intentions. But I put my money on
Yamaha's management; they have always been honest and accessible.

 Very well spoken, Ed!
Actually, my "complaint" was 75% impatience/excitement, 5% disdain
for monopolizers, and 20% in defense of the "little guy". we have to
expect companies to make good BUSINESS decisions, and we can't
discount the hard work and ingenuity which rewards the Rolands and
GC's of the world with controlling advantages. And we all know this
going in. I support the little guys when I can and understand the
consequences either way. I hold no grudges with anyone in this
case..I'm just blowing off cause I'm coming out of my skin in
anticipation!!!!!
Thanks for the reality check!

Actually, Dan, you seemed remarkably civilized under the
circumstances. I hate waiting for anything once I buy it, even when I
know about the wait from the outset.

I hate waiting as well. That's why I waited until the local GC actually had
them in stock at the local store before I bought my original DtxpressII. I
will also wait until they physically have one at the local store that I can
buy and take home the same day. I hate ordering something and not knowing
when it will come in and simply refuse to do it.

Honestly, this was the 1st( and I fear LAST) time I've done this!
After much thought and many questions, I made the decision to TRUST
that I will love the DTXIIS( and I was concerned about non-mesh
pads). I NEVER buy things "sight unseen", and I too HATE TO WAIT!!!
I'm truly finding how age effects patience! All I can say is that
the price was definitely worth waiting a little longer. After all,
once I have it , all of the agony of waiting is forgotten!!!
Thanks, guys, for at least temporarily making me feel a little better

Dan,

You could always download a picture of the kit and the manuals and print
them out and place them by your headboard at night. I have access to a large
format plotter, so if I needed a fix and get tired of it not showing up at
the local GC, I can always print a full size photo of the kit and place it
in the corner of the room where it will eventually sit. ; )

Hi all,

We had an interesting discussion recently (a thread called "Fun Roland Facts") at VDrums.com where it came out that Yamaha's music division is STILL a much larger operation than Roland (in terms of employees, revenue, etc.).

http://vdrums.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14775

Roland is moreso in the 'underdog' position when you look at the bigger picture of all musical instruments. However, when you're talking e-drums alone, Roland seems to currently enjoy the market leader position for e-drums. Thus drummers tend to get a skewed perspective of the Roland "monopoly".

In days of yore...., when I was but a broke musician (as opposed to now
as a broke bloke, Married with children and all that!), I used to go to
place like Guitar Center and get all depressed looking at all the neat
new toys I could never afford to buy. So, I came up with a neat little
trick that might be helpful for those of you who (like me!) don't get to
particiapte in the "ugrade" frenzy the new kits are spawning... :)

Go down to your local music store and find the big rack where they keep
all the brochures for gear. The glossy, glitzy advertizing flyers and
spec sheets are usually all in a big cabinet, arranged for easy access.
Go through and get the brochure for every piece of equipment (and
software) that YOU ALREADY OWN.

If you can't find them there, then go to your trusty computer, hit
GOOGLE, and type in the model #'s and the keyword "PDF" or "REVIEW". This
will usually get you links to manuals or reviews of the hardware.

Take these home and read through them and see if you don't get excited
about what you *already* have and maybe explore some of the things you
might have forgotten about or were meaning to try. Don't want to sound
too preachy here, but the "count your blessings" approach can ward off
the "gee I wish" blues... ;)

Vern

PS: I think I'll head to GC and take a dose of my own medicine... :(

Whew! That thread was a little rough! Nothing like a little
competitive jousting.hehe! Actually, it was MY poor writing skills
that misled you as to my intentions. I should not have included
Roland in my "little guy/ big guy" rant , as I was really referring
to the retailers. The Ma&Pa's can't generate the $$$, and so they
and their cusyomers deal with the consequences. I wouldn't begin to
know enough about the manufacturers to comment on their relative
sizes. Roland seems to hold the edge in e-drums..and for good
reason. But there are good companies that will keep them from
resting...that's what makes it work for us. I doubt that my DTXIIS
will be half-arsed. It may not be for everyone, but who's one
product is? Let's just hope we can create enough interest to make it
worthwhile for ALL of these companies to invest whatever it takes to
make us ALL happy.
P.S. loved the pics and demos

That was my problem, Vern...I DIDN'T OWN ANYTHING ANYMORE!!!!
When my kit comes in, I'll then be broke, married w/ kids(oh! yeah,
and OLD) and I promise to follow your advice!
I like your thinking!

I have a serious problem, I have too many hobbies.... motocross,
radio controlled planes helis & cars, DTxpress II, all the audio and
video, and now a new one astronomy... I just had to have that big ole
telescope. Not a dime in the bank... kinda scary, but hey, I'm never
bored. I go into peoples homes everyday with my work, some of these
people are loaded, but they don't have ONE hobby, nothing in the
garage, no entertainment. I once had a girlfriend who's dad "ironed
his money" They just worked hard all their lives, and now they don't
know what to do with all the money, then they die and their kids blow
it all. I say..... if there is something you really want, then by all
means do everything you can to aquire it (without stealing it), don't
buy it new, 1/2 to a 1/3 off for nearly new anyday. You only live
once and its not long enough. Enjoy
