Still Looking For KAT midiKITI....hey Ed...listen to this...

2003-01-30 by jadiebooshkie <jadiebooshkie@yahoo.com>

Seems like this is the needle in the hay stack.......will you keep
your eyes and ears open for me? I found one, supposedly from
Resurrection Drums (Rezdrums.com) and they were supposed to call me
back, they had to check to see if it had power cords with it
(apparently they have a couple of KITIs)...well that was 2 days
ago!! Plus they wanted a whopping $200 for it..with NO power cord
for criminy sakes!!! Think they are trying to rip me off??!!
Anyway...to all that read this post, please let me know if ya happen
to run across one. If I can't find one, I will buy the Roland TMC-
6...what do ya think about Rezdrums? Has anyone out there done any
dealing with them? They are in Florida.......Jade

Hi Jade,

Did Alternate Mode steer you to rezdrums? Now that you mention it, I
recall that Mario at Alernate Mode may have sent someone else to
them. Their price on the KITI is the same as Alternate Modes' highly
touted final close-out price for it when it went out of production.
So rez probably thinks that they can get away with it. I haven't
seen a midiKITI fetch more than $100-120 on ebay. PrePal's average
pricing for it on the used market is a whopping $69, and that's the
ballpark in my experience. People will spend more for it because
they think they have to and because it's a really good piece of
equipment. After all, it is a rare specialty item. If you don't do
your homework, you can get burned (unless, of course, you want one
so bad and so fast that $200 doesn't throw you--a distinct mode of
behavior that I know from firsthand experience). The power supply's
no big deal. If you manage to get the interface itself without one,
I'll give you the rating, and you can check your spare ones at home
or buy one from radio shack, PC connection, or whatever. Personally,
I think rez is giving you the runaround. Nobody does a song and
dance about finding a power supply if they have a customer who just
might be willing to buy without it. I may be wrong; they may call
you tomorrow and take your offer of $100. But I'll bet they don't
have one, think they know where they might get one, and are trying
to procure it to make a nice little profit for themselves. They know
drummers want them. Alternate Mode was even thinking of making it
again last year.

I have been keeping my eye out for it--the Roland, too--and will
continue to do so until we find one or you cave and get the TMC-6,
which wouldn't be a bad consolation prize. But then you might have
to start from scratch saving for the next cymbal.

Ed

What about the Roland PM-16? I think I'm gonna get one of those!
Is a $150 a good price or should I spend time looking for one priced
at $100? I'm willing to pay $150 though.

Any kind of store is going to charge more than an auction might get.
Ebay seems to be on a down cycle for the Roland and Kat, though. In
the beginning of Dec., four or five of them were floating around. I
just noticed that someone on the Vdrum forum with a DTXII was
announcing his search for a midiKITI or a PM-16, too, so there's
definitely competition. I don't think that $150 is an outrageous
price for the Roland. Someone is currently selling a bizarre kit on
ebay that includes a PM-16. The seller concedes that he may well
have to sell his stuff independently. It wouldn't be a bad idea to
visit his auction and send him a message that you'd be willing to
buy his PM-16 now or if his auction fails. It might work. Run a
search on "Roland PM-16"; the page should come up. He's got a
combination of Roland, Yamaha, Pintech, etc.

I BET Rez drums doesn't have a KAT...you are probably
right, they are looking to find one. I emailed them
today about the promise of a phone call for a possible
buyer...we will see what happens. Anyway, you would
THINK AlternateMode would RE-MAKE the KITI...there is
a good market for them. Keep your eyes peeled, I am
all over the web looking. Let ya know IF I hear from
Rezdrums...Jade

Alternate Mode's a really good company, but they're small, and so,
in the scheme of things, is the edrum buying public. I would think
that AM would have to be pretty sure of the market before they put
anything into production. And what features would they include, and
how cheaply could they manufacture, and advertise, it? Thankfully,
Roland is so overpriced that AM might be able to price a new KITI to
be competitive with the TMC-6, but Roland also has the distinct
advantage of being able to absorb any losses from any one product
that fails to pay for itself. I think that I mentioned that AM were
considering a re-make last year. Maybe they're looking at how the
TMC-6 is selling and tracking sales of used midiKITIs on ebay and
other venues. It's funny, I remember reading NAMM 2002 reports about
Roland's introduction of the TMC-6, and many of them seemed to also
make mention of the gap left by the late lamented midiKITI. One last
thing: I keep forgetting to say midiKITI Pro. That model is the most
likely one to show up, but it's worth making sure. It has the
updated features.

2003-01-31 by jadiebooshkie <jadiebooshkie@yahoo.com>

FINALLY received an email from Rezdrums...they said they had 4 in
stock, but need to find owners manual. Said they were short staffed
due to flu, but will contact me as soon as they hear from Alternate
Mode (to get owners manual). I asked them again how much they
wanted for the KAT...we will see if the price changes, and I told
them to email me back. Hopefully I will hear from them next
week....Jade--- In DTXpress@yahoogroups.com, "jadiebooshkie

Re: Still Looking For KAT midiKITI....hey Ed...listen to this...

2003-01-31 by liberatusvirus <liberatusvirus@yahoo.com>

I know for certain that Alternate Mode has the manual; they sell it
for $20. But if the lack of a manual holds up the sale in any way,
shape, or form, assuming that you're happy with their other terms, I
will find a way to get you a copy of my manual. I can easily believe
that they've been short-staffed by the flu (my own family has been
short-staffed by it), but unless these guys are the salt of the
earth, I can't believe that they aren't following through with the
KITI more quickly because they feel guilty about not having the
manual or because they need a few more people in the store to
complete the sale. It takes more energy to write a dilatory email
than process a credit card order. Wow.

Re: Still Looking For KAT midiKITI....hey Ed...listen to this...

2003-01-31 by jadiebooshkie <jadiebooshkie@yahoo.com>

I believe that is hardly a way to make a sale. The sales guy,
Jeff, also said that he has 4 KATs in stock, and that they are
involved with putting on a latin show for the all star hockey game,
combine that with the flu hitting his staff all at once,
he "profusely apologized". I will take the KAT if he gets back to
me, I know I can count on you guys to help me set it up.
If I get it, I will let you know. This Jeff was supposed to call
Mario at Alternate Mode for a manual, then he was going to get back
to me. If I can get it w/o the manual, I will ask him if he will
take a price cut...especially if it comes w/o manual OR P/S!!
Will keep ya posted on what I hear.
Something really odd, tho'...I just can't see ice hockey fans
getting into latin music...somehow it just doesn't fit the typical
fan. I am from a strong pro hockey area, and believe me...latin
music isn't on their agenda...I hope this guy is at least a LITTLE
honest!!....Thanks for the help!...Jade

If it helps in any way, I know there is a Grammy Award
winning singer (Jorge something or other) performing
at the All Star game, so this guy may be telling the
truth. Since the game is in Florida, I think the NHL
is trying to involve the Cubian community in the
festivities. Who know, look what an impact the
Jamaican Bob-Sled team made on the Olympics - maybe
the Cubians will sponsor an NHL team in the
future....Walt

Yeah, we all know what fans the Cubans are of the NHL! I read once
that Castro goes to the ice rinks in Havana on a daily basis to watch
