An1x keyboard action

An1x keyboard action

2004-07-17 by Magnus Persson

Hi!

I'm new to this group.

I'm thinking about buying an an1x for double purposes.
1. To add an "analog" synth to the rig.
2. To use as a MIDI controller.

I have read only great reviews about it and it is very affordable second
hand!
I cannot test the unit before buying it since nobody sells it in "my
neighbourhood".

I want my other keyboard to change program on the An1x but not to send
Key On/Off messages.
Can you do that?

Regards, Magnus

That was definately a misleading subject row!

I was first going to ask about the keyboard action but I read at
numerous places that the action is exellent so I changed my mind.
But unfortunately I did not change the subject row...

Sorry!

/Magnus

Well, keyboard action is open to broad interpretation Magnus, and you'll find a
large variance of opinions within this group about the AN1x. Personally, I find
the DX-7 and 01/W action to be the best synth action produced... (not sure of
many modern synths, I've kept away from gear lust at music stores for about 4
years now). That type action has a bit of a weight to it, has a break-over
point where it seems to get lighter, and has excellent padding at the bottom of
the stroke. The AN1x has a very light, unweighted, continuous action with light
padding that causes slapping when played hard. I play piano and have a heavier
touch in general, so I personally rate the AN's action about 2.5/10. Jon, our
moderator, has a higher opinion as do others. But I feel yes, there's plenty
worse out there with no padding at the bottom and almost no springs at all....
Finally, the aftertouch is very sensitive on the AN and cannot be adjusted in
the operating system.

See I find this is one thing i too actually like about the An1x. It's
action is light but It is firm imho. I love it for the percussive type
organ pumping and bubbling that I use the An1x for.

Re: An1x keyboard action

2004-07-21 by zengoogoo

Hello,

The key action is very good. Not as semi-weighted as the highoend
korg/yamaha keyboards, but not as bad as most unweighted midi
controllers (m-audio etc). I find it a little lighter than the
keyboards of the Roland XP-30 and Novation KS4 that I used to own.

The problem that I have when using it as a controller for other
synths is that its aftertouch is VERY sensitive. AT depth can be
scaled in the control matrix, but I can't find anything that will let
me tame it for external synths. If I could, I'd be very happy
indeed!

Good luck!

ZG
