My FC7 pedal has Died, so Fc7 vs inline volume pedals for an1x

My FC7 pedal has Died, so Fc7 vs inline volume pedals for an1x

2006-08-30 by Pete Nalda

hi all,
my FC 7 volume pedal has just died, and I'm needing another pedal.
everyone tells me that I should just get an inline pedal as they tend
to be sturdier. I'm scared as I know that won't interact with the
an1x's synth engine the way the fc7 does, however, one thing is that
if my an1x should ever die I could use the new pedal with any
keyboard without an expression pedal input. I do use some of the
overdrive features of the an1x but most of my overdrive comes from
the tube amp. so would my an1x totally not act right if i were to
use an inline volume pedal between the an1x and amp?

The fc7 is a nice pedal, but it never seemed all that smooth to me.
what do y'all think?

Thanks in Advance

Greetings:

One thing nice is that you can map just about any CC function to the F7,
not just volume so it has a lot more versatility than a "volume" pedal
-- expression pedal is more like it..

I have a pile of them and use them with DX7's, EX5, A5K, AN1X and even
patch them into FX700/900 Effects processors and MFC MIDI Stomp boxes.

Very usefull. As for other keyboards, etc, just buy another Yamaha.
Simple. I don't know how compatible the FC7 is with other manufacturers.

As a good safe alternative, get a FC9. I have one of those too. It is
a passive / Active pedel. It looks like an FC7 and can be an FC7 and an
active volume control, even both at the same time if you want.
Generally, it is a general purpose unit that should work with just about
anything you may want.

Just a thought;

Peter

thanks. is the FC9 anymore sturdier than the FC7? Also, wonder how
it compares price-wise since it does more?

One other note I don't really use the other expression features on my
FC7. I just have it mapped to volume on all my patches.
thought about it but with all the other controls the an1x has never
really need it for anything else.

Pete:

You can go out to www.MusiciansFriend.com and check out the prices. The
FC7 goes for about $37.00 USD and the FC9 is about $69.00 USD.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Yamaha-FC7-Volume-Pedal?sku=151552

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Yamaha-Dual-Volume-Pedal?sku=151553

I think the FC7 is pretty sturdy myself, but the FC9 is definatley more so.

With the FC9, you can have a typical volume control for two channels at
a time. So, a stereo instrument, two mono instruments or one mono
instrument and a CC controller all at once.

Another option is the FC7 or FC9 and say a MFC1 MIDI stomp box. They
can be had on E-Bay for less than $50.00 and then you have something
like 8-discrete patch selections, or up to 128 or so in a chain and can
plug the FC7/FC9 and an FC5 switch into it and it will work with any
MIDI compatible device.
