Hello. I received Yamaha AN1x from a eBay seller yesterday, but it doesn't work pretty well. All D-keys on the keyboard transmits only aftertouch information. All Gis-keys doesn't transmitted anything. Do you know what's about a problem? I tried Factory reset An1x but a problem remains stil. If I tried play AN1x sounds by another masterkeyboard everything is OK.... Sorry my English isn't good.... Thank you Ondrash

Hello ! i think that the hardware scanning the keyboard has a problem , it is not only a bad key contact . I got the same kind of failure on my old Casio CZ but i 've fixed it , the multiplexing and scanning of the contacts is done with standard logic ICs . On an AN1X i don't know how this function is done ... and i don't want to know it too soon !! Because modern customer electronics often use hard to find custom ICs (i.e. : made only for Yamaha and not available in retail shops) . I don't actually have an AN1x yet (although I might have been bidding on this one that has a problem) but most keyboard mechanisms in synths are connected to the scanning circuit or main board via a removable cable/connector. It's not difficult to open the AN1x case - simply remove the plastic knobs on the front panel, flip it over and remove the approximately 40 screws to remove the case cover. This very topic has been discussed on the list previoulsy, although not recently (search the list archives), and it was determined a cable connector had become loose in transit. A similar problem has cropped up from time to time affecting the Ribbon Controller too - same fix is applicable. Regards, Jon

Hi Bob ! mine plays perfectly ... and i don't know where ondrash77 lives ! You're right , the first thing to do is to check if all the ribbon cables between the keyboard and other(s) PCBs are well fitted in their sockets on both sides . For ondrash77 , have a look at http://www.deepsonic.ch/deep/htm/an1x.php (sorry it's in german ...) : there are wiews of the inner parts of an AN1X , just to get an idea of what is inside the case . Be careful , don't remove anyting without marking the connectors , and be very careful with rhe screws . A lot of them are fitted into plastic , and don't let a loose screw inside ! The wide PCBs are fragile , don't bow them too much , you can break copper tracks or a solder of a SMD I.C. If connector contacts , pins .. are dirty or oxydized you can use cleaning fluids for electronics such as KF cleaner (very useful for "scratching" pots too) , wipe out the excess cleaner before mounting . You can also clean all "suspect" traces on the keyboard PCB (beer, soda ..) which can sometimes be found there! But one more time : act slowly and carefully , and if you know an electronics hobbyist he could be helpful . And don't worry , the AN1X seems to be a reliable machine , mine is a 97 model , has known different owners and is still perfectly playable ! @+ J.F. Hi Ondrash, As a technician, I can tell you that the advice you have been given so far is excellent. First: Take out the screws on the bottom and look at the circuit board. Wherever you see a cable plugged into a socket, remove it and plug it back in. Maybe only one pin is weak and just doing this will fix the problem. Second: You might try resetting it to the factory defaults. This involves holding down a combination of buttons when you power the unit on. Check the back of your manual to determine how to do this. Third: If this doesn't work, then you may have to have the "keyboard matrix" repaired. This is very easy for a technician and will involve the replacement of a diode worth under a dollar. ondrash77 wrote:

Thank you for your advices but I have to say that problem isnt still resolved. I have tried all, but nothing was changed. I gave to repair AN1x to Authorized Yamaha Service. The serviceman told me that problem is about keyboard processor. The repair will cost about 70. It is terrible. :o(

Thank you for your advices but I have to say that problem isn't still resolved. I have tried all, but nothing was changed. I gave to repair AN1x to Authorized Yamaha Service. The serviceman told me that problem is about keyboard processor. The repair will cost about 70?. It is terrible. :o(
