This is a very good suggestion and I would second the idea.  It's 
not difficult to open the AN1x case - simply remove the plastic 
knobs on the front panel, flip it over and remove the approximately 
40 screws to remove the case cover.

This very topic has been discussed on the list previoulsy, although 
not recently (search the list archives), and it was determined a 
cable connector had become loose in transit.  A similar problem has 
cropped up from time to time affecting the Ribbon Controller too - 
same fix is applicable.
