To get past the silence issue, you'll have to go into pattern edit
and select 'extend track data' - this copies the given bar range and
pastes it into the "blank" space after the copied pattern's bars.
i.e., you copy bars 1-4 (where your track data is), and extend it to
bar 8 - next time you play it you'll hear bars 1-4 twice, instead of
1-4 and silence for 5-8.
