Patch editors for XL7

Patch editors for XL7

2003-06-14 by Andre Lewis

Now it all comes clear, I understand it. The Java spec doesn't have any way to
read in events from a midi port! Yikes. No way to get two way communications
between them. I mean I am looking into this, but it seams like EMU's strategy
is to use Java for their software. No way for them to fix this until people
stop trying to turn Java into a game development platform and make it less
gamecentric...! Yipes.

Unless of course I am missing something, I would love to have someone show me
how to recieve realtime messages from an external keyboard via Java and
Midi....,
Anyone?

Bueller?

The Java SDK doesn't care about MIDI communication. You need to write
your own native dll or look out for some 3rd party MIDI toolkit,
which are available on the net (here's one for example:
http://www.mcnabb.com/software/fantasia/). But they will probably use
their own native dlls for this, so platform independancy depends on
the support from the toolkit-supplier.

Java 1.3 implements some of the midi functionality for midi 1.0, namely midi
file opening / saving and transmiting, setting events controller listeners etc.
but as far as I can tell there is no way to poll a device and get messages in
realtime. I wouldn't want to use custom DLL's since it sort of defeats the
purpose of using Java.

Thanks for the link, looks interesting

Cheers,
Andre

I thought it was since JDK1.4?

When it comes to synth editor, we could start from this:

I know that the guys are very busy at emu. but it would be super
cool if they had an editor for the command stations. I wonder if
that's what E5 is supposed to be. Whatever happened to e5 anyway??

just john's Cubeworld Vacation

2003-06-16 by just john

Finally got the nerve to plug this CD to all you guys.

http://www.ampcast.com/music/5560/albums.php

My new CD, "Cubeworld Vacation" features my Emu XL-7 on "Procedural,"
my Electribe on "Laughing Targets" and my HPD-15 Handsonic on various
tracks throughout.

It's a compilation of the tracks I've done since "Ayatollah of
Understatement," which I still consider to be a damn fine album.

Yupper! Nothing but the best, high-grade modesty from me!

My humility kicks ass!

(Mine, mostly.)
