Trouble loading audity 2000 files..

Trouble loading audity 2000 files..

2003-06-05 by Erika

So I've got the sysex files for the audity 2000 from the files area.
I tried loading them via midiox (www.midiox.com). I had one success
with mixed results. After loading, the first demo song started
playing. I turned it off and something was playing alla stuck note..
I was able to audition a few of the new sounds (which I like very
much..). But then I turned off the xl7 to get rid of the stuck note
and none of the patches work (because they are saying ROM not found..)

Is there some bank changes I need to make to the files? or change the
device ID on the XL7? I tried 10 (as suggestead in the files area)and
0 as the sysex device ID on the XL7. Both times the ROM wasn't found..

Pleas please helP..!!

thanks!

The XL1 chip contains the Audity 2000 wav files... The sysex files
for the audity2000 preset banks are avaible in the files section of
the group. If the appropritate bank changes are made, they should
work. Which I assumed was the case from the converastion I had with
the person who posted them and the instructions in the file area.
The demo that played was from the xl7.. the sounds were from some of
the instruments from the audity that replaced the XL1 presets.

Go into patch edit and you can see that the audity wavs are in there..

Did bassmeister change the ROM ID's because they are different? I
know that the wav forms are the same as I have both. WAV forms from
the Audity were used in the X-Lead(XL-1)and X-ROM(XL-7).

I hope you get it to work correctly.

Re: Trouble loading audity 2000 files..

2003-06-05 by Erika

See I'm hoping he did.. I'm trying to find out how to change the rom
Id's..

Speaking of which how do I edit the sysex files? Cause from the sysex
manual from emu it looks like I have to change the ROM ID in the
header...

In midiox, the sysex file comes up as hexidecimal.. do I need a
hexdec editor?

Ir eally hope I get it to work, cause if it was a fluke, the osunds
sound really good and I can see alot of potential for using sysex..

thanks!

Actually these are the original rom ID's, someone else wanted me to post the raw
dump so they could convert them. The Rom ID's are different and they could
potentially be replaced by a global binary search and replace.

Sorry Erika,

Re: [xl7] Re: Trouble loading audity 2000 files..

2003-06-05 by biz

I got part of the way there, and then real life interceded...

It's a little more difficult than a 'search and replace', since the position, and not the actual code is the known quantity - undoubtably the code for the audity ROM is in plenty of other places in the sysex, specifying something completly different. Also, the second half of the patches involve even more detailed conversion.

For the first half of the patches, you just need to find out where in each patch in the sysex the rom id resides. The easiest way may be to push the audity sysex into your xl-7. change just the rom id of the first patch, in all four layers, and then dump it out again. The number which has changed needs ot be changed in all the following sysexes. This is probably easiest to do in excel - in fact I got everything all set up for the conversion, and simply needed to locate the sysex using my xl-7 when I got sidetracked by life. Just convert the systex to decimal, and load it as a 'space delimited' text file (as opposed to tab delimited) and you have a file you can work with.

(Interesting bote - for some reason, the audity sysexes are jumbled. Each patch is loaded in 4 sets of sysex messages, with set 2 and 4 sent before set 1 and 3. This means that the sysex code is out of order. This isn't an issue for this kind of 'search and replace' job, but is if you wanted do more major conversions).

For the second half, (the audity 'extreme' patches) it gets more complicated. First, you need to change the ROM id. However, that's not enough - the samples have been shifted from their position in the original ROM. This means you need to

1. Find the 4 spots in each patch where each layer's sample number is stored. You cna do this the same way you found the rom id.
2. Convert the sysex from hexadecimal to tab delimited decimal, and load it into a spreadsheet program, such as excel.
3. Create another column in excel that is a subtraction of the first.
4. Replace the first column with the second.

See I was thinking of finding the entire message header for the rom ID's and
doing a full replace, for instance 0A 70 21 88 0A to something like 0A 70 21 43
0A (Example only). I haven't looked at the actual messages in MidiOX or a hex
editor yet, mostly because I don't know the rom ID's. Aaaaaroooon are you
reading these ?? Could you please post the ROM ID's again? I know you did a
long time ago and I don't know what I did with the list! :(

I did? Don't remember, but here they are: I can't remember which one
the Audity Xtreme ROM is. I think it's ERom2. That would make the IDs
0x03 and 0x02, which you'd want to convert to either 0x07 (for the
XL-1) or 0x0E (for the XL-7 rom). You'd make everybody happy if you
did both, since if you did one, the other would be trivial.
