check the os ..possibly you might need to update it (even if it is
new) . I have had several problems with the xl but mostly they have
been self induced. It is very possible that you got a melon though.
what would be really cool is if there was some sort of test program
that one could run to see if the unit was working.I know from reading
a couple of diy's that this is possible but what company is goign to
give up that kind of material.

Hold down the Left and Right Cursors while powering On to boot into
Diagnostics Mode. Just don't go doing anything in there unless you know
what you're doing!!!!! It's very easy to wipe out all of your User or
Factory Songs/Patterns/Presets if you're not careful! :)

Have you upgraded to OS 2.0? If not, that should be your first step.
My XL from MF came with 1.31 loaded. I've locked it up once so far
(changing the timestamp of a note in the Note Edit screen while the
sequencer was playing) but I'm withholding judgment until I can get
the latest update loaded and I'm sure any bugs I find are still in
there.

The Motif and the XL are completely different instruments.

What problems are you having? Just saying it doesn't work doesn't help us
trouble shoot it for you. List your computer specs too.

oh yeah, i'm running Mac OS X.1 on an ibook w/a 56k dialup modem. and i
tried to download the newer version of eloader because the disc that came w/the
xl-7 tried to install eloader into OS 9.2. very frustrating.

Now this explains a lot. so does this mean i have to run everything on os
9.2, obviously via midi? and will the new 3.0 for the xl-7 download to mac os
9.2? will the new version of eloader download to os9.2?

thanks..

That's what I'm doing at the moment. In fact, the rest of my studio
rig (two Nord MicroModulars, two OasysPCI cards) also requires MacOS
9. At the risk of stating the obvious, music equipment manufacturers are
not, and never have been, software companies.

Well, E-Loader is written in Java ("Write Once, Run Anywhere", it says
here), and porting the MIDI/USB portions to OS X shouldn't be that
difficult.

You can't, he was saying it should be hard for someone with Java skills to
do it. Maybe take your XL-7 to a local music store and see if they'll let
you use a PC in the store to do the OS update? Most stores are pretty
cool about this...

Yeah, you need to use MIDI and you'll need to bring the E-loader disc as
well as the new OS file. I wouldn't worry about the whole Mac issue, at
least you don't have to spend Christmas day downloading drivers huh?
*snicker*

and the new OS file would come from me downloading 2.0 for the xl-7 to my
ibook with Mac OS 9.2, from the emu site, correct.

>>>yes<<<

Hw long should it take to download 2.0 from the emu site, via a 56k modem
hookup?

rEalm as far as general usage on the xl is there any reason to be in
this menu. Are there any general steps that one can take once in a
while to make shure that everything is juzt alright ?
