I was thinking about getting the Orbit3 instead of the XL-7, and the Fantom-S. But, is there some sort of card that has the 909 sound set? I mean, it's only 32mb of sound--is this available somewhere, or on someting. I was thinking my best buy would be: Fantom-S (4 SRX Cards/ Supreme Dance, Platinum Trax) Orbit3 w/ XL Expansion card. This will be a good set up, small, but yet you have everything from roland and emu if you are into Dance, Trance genre.

Actually for dance my most usefull kit list would be: Virus Indigo C or even the original XL7 Roland XV5080 rackmount w/expansions I think that is really the most productive. You would be crazy not to get an Access Virus B or C, forget the synth cards, or at the very least a Waldorf Micro Q or a Novation Nova or Supernova. Here's a link to a Micro Q super cheap http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2503248933&category=23792 Actually I could get by just fine with a JP8000 and an MC505 with a good mixer and compressor. My current setup: Fruityloops, Sonar 2XL, Cubase SX, Soundforge 5, Beatslicer Midi Timepiece AV, Opcode 64x, Opcode 128x Roland MC505, Emu XL7 with TSCY and MoPhat Waldorf Pulse Plus, Future Retro 777, Access Virus B Roland XV88 with House, HipHop, and sounds of Asia Kawai K5000s, Emu Audity 2000 Yamaha A5000 w/zip 250 outboard effects and compressors. Digital mixer Lots of other stuff. I'd have to say my out and out favorites are Fruityloops, K5000s, Pulse Plus, Orbit v2, and Virus B. I have been most productive with the 505, a JP8000, and the A5000 using bZone. I would say if you get the Phantom, get the XL1 Pro and a Virus B. Don't bother with the expansion cards, or get those later. If you can't afford a secondhand virus get the Korg MS2000r or the Micro Q. This ought to muddy up the waters a bit... ;) Andre

What you say is very interesting. I am not very happy with the Roland Fantom sounds. I think I would probably use 1/4 of the sounds because most of them are acustic, that's why I was thinking about the ROM Expansions. The drums on the EMU XL are amazing! I will definately use those. I was liking the Fantom-S because of the sequencer, sampleing, I can use it as the controller for all the modules, and expandability. I heard the Supreme Dance card....Not particularly happy with all the sounds. Probably happy with 1/2 of those sounds. So, your probably right about my choices. This leads me to this: I dont have any sequencer, or software sequencing knowlege. I've always used hardware--(Roland XP-80 and the Korg N364--sequencer). It had 16 tracks. Now, what if I got one of these two (Which is better) SuperNova2 Keyboard version or Virus KC5 Keyboard version In addition to that, the Orbit3--XL card? If I get this set up, I'm going to need a sequencer, something I have no idea how to do on a PC. My question is, if I do this set up, can I use either of these keyboards as the controller for the Orbit3? If so, how will it work? I hear that some modules come with 32 channels, but most have 16. So, if the Keyboard only has 16, how will I get the other 16 out of the 32? What is the better Synth? Supernova II Keyboard 5-Octave 24-Voice Polyphonic Synth 8-part multitimbral capability/ 1,024 user Programs Or Access Virus kc 5-Octave Synth 32-voice polyphony and 16-part multitimbral capability/ 1024 programs (256 User / 768 ROM / 128 Multi) Does this "1024 programs (256 User / 768 ROM / 128 Multi" Mean that the Virus has 1024 individual sounds? Lot's of questions, please help. Amen to that!!! Just got my Virus KC two days ago, man does that thing seriously rock! Never had so much fun making up sounds, now if only I could tear myself away fom it long enough to power up the computer and actually record something! :) rEalm You would be crazy not to get an Access Virus B or C....
